Swimming in the Deep Blue Ocean

We had fun during our Spring theme. The children enjoyed pretending to be caterpillars changing into butterflies. We also had fun pretending to grow from a seed to a flower. Our caterpillars arrived last week! They have made their cocoons and soon we will have butterflies. We will keep you updated with pictures. We will also let you know how our experiment goes to see what will grow. Will it be a crayon, a block or a bean seed? The children each got to make a choice. We will let you know the results soon. :-)
During the next two weeks our theme will be Ocean. We will dive into the vast ocean and explore different animals while we continue to expand of different concepts and skills.

Ms. Stephie's Speech Spot

Hello LRE speech families!

The next two weeks we will be learning and talking about the beach and ocean. The first week we will focus on going to the beach and taking along needed items to make our trip fun. Activities will include sorting items, objects, and animals that you need or see at the beach/ ocean. We will also include items that are not needed or seen at the beach/ ocean to practice inferencing and critical thinking skills. The second week we will include animals that live on the beach or in the ocean. Again we will include animals that don't belong there to allow the children to expand their language by answering why questions as well as using inferencing and reasoning to draw conclusions. We will read the book A Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae to introduce some of our ocean friends. As always, skills will focus on following directions, waiting/ turn-taking, vocabulary development (descriptive and action words), language expansion, social language skills, sequencing, and speech sound development and practice. Small group activities will include opportunities to verbally interact with peers as well as attend to an adult directed activity.

Have fun learning about the beach and ocean! Can you tell we are thinking about warm weather?! :0)
