PISD District Honors/AP Withdrawl Policy
- After the 1st 9 weeks, a student may request a levels drop if ALL of the following apply:
- There is an on-level version offered of the advanced level course AND there is space available
- The student’s grade in the first grading period is anticipated to be below 70%
- The student has attended at least 3 tutorial sessions and the teacher has documented instructional interventions provided to support the student
- The student, parent, and teacher support the change
- After the 1st semester, a student may request a levels drop, provided that there is availability in the lower level course.
- Students who do NOT request to drop levels at the beginning of the 2nd semester of a two-semester course are expected to remain in the course throughout the remainder of the school year. This means there are NO schedule changes during the 2nd semester of school related to an honors/AP drop.

The Boys Who Challenged Hitler
By Phillip Hoose
At the outset of World War II, Denmark did not resist German occupation. Deeply ashamed of his nation's leaders, fifteen-year-old Knud Pedersen resolved with his brother and a handful of schoolmates to take action against the Nazis if the adults would not.
Naming their secret club after the fiery British leader, the young patriots in the Churchill Club committed countless acts of sabotage, infuriating the Germans, who eventually had the boys tracked down and arrested. But their efforts were not in vain: the boys' exploits and eventual imprisonment helped spark a full-blown Danish resistance.
Interweaving his own narrative with the recollections of Knud himself, here is Phillip Hoose's inspiring story of these young war heroes.
Vengeance Road
When her father is murdered for a journal revealing the location of a hidden gold mine, eighteen-year-old Kate Thompson disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers—and justice.
What she finds are untrustworthy strangers, endless dust and heat, and a surprising band of allies, among them a young Apache girl and a pair of stubborn brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow.
But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, a startling truth becomes clear: some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.
