Joi passed of an acute illness on October 22, 2010 at the young age of twenty-nine. She was an honors student graduating from Purdue University who then moved from Indiana to Minnesota to work as the Human Resource Manager at General Mills, Inc. She was passionate about community service, particularly mentoring teenage girls, and was actively involved with the program Girls in Action. Their mission statement is "to decrease and prevent violence among high school girls while positively engaging them in academics and leadership."
To keep her memory alive, her family, friends and General Mills, Inc. joined together to establish a scholarship for college-bound teenage girls named the Joi Warren Scholarship. The scholarship is to assist girls attending college in financial need that strive for academic excellence and who are dedicated to serving their community. Over the past three years we have raised a grand total of $22,500 to award eight scholarship recipients.
