Homework
What are we learning this month?
Math: We are currently learning about Place Value in math. See the math corner below for more detail on the different aspects of place value we are learning about.
Reading/Writing: We will be working with Fundations to practice our reading, spelling, and writing skills throughout the whole school year. We are tapping out words to sound them out. We have been learning about nouns and verbs and will soon learn about adjectives. We are talking about how these parts of speech fit into our sentences.
Social Studies: We are still learning about how our communities and government function, but we are also learning about some of the U.S. Symbols through Pebble Go research and lessons in class.
Grading System
Math Corner
Place Value Key Terms:
Standard Form: 237
Word Form: Two hundred thirty-seven
Expanded Form: 200 + 30 + 7
Value: Value is what the digit is worth. The value of the 2 in 237 is 200.
Places: Hundreds place (2 hundreds). Tens place (3 tens). Ones place (7 ones)
Modeling: Modeling is drawing pictures to represent a number, we draw these in a hundreds chart. We draw squares to represent hundreds, sticks to represent tens, and dots to represent ones.

Book Order
I am sending home our first book order today! This is a great way to provide your child with quality literature at a very reasonable price. Please check out the book order coming home today and see what you find. If you would like to order; fill out the order form on the back of the order and send it back to me with a check made out to the book company (Scholastic). Please don’t write checks to me or to the school. You can place your Scholastic Book Club orders online using a credit card if you wish! See instructions below on how to do this. Please do whichever is more convenient for you. I am asking that you have all your orders in by Thursday, October 17th.
To order online:
Go to www.Scholastic.com/readingclubs. Click on the parent’s link on the right and enter our class code. You can also find this link on my classroom website.
