Celebrating Dr. Seuss
Everyone loves a read aloud!
Mrs. Boyd's Update
Surprisingly, one of the things that can best help children comprehend is lots of practice talking about their reading. And we can practice this with stories in whatever form they come--in books or on a screen. Here are some good conversation starters:
Read a book or watch a movie or TV show with your child. After, ask questions like,
- "What kind of person was ___? What makes you say that?"
- "What do you think the lesson in this movie is?" or "What do you think the theme is?"
- "Why do you think the author/screen writer/director included that part?"
- "What was the conflict/problem?"
- Would you want to read/see that again? Why or why not?
Thank you for being our partners in student learning!
