Do YOU have an internship lined up yet? If you do, GREAT!! If not, there's plenty of application deadlines coming up but you have to act quick. There is also the LC Smith and School Wide Career fairs which everyone should attend.

4. Joining SHPEjr.
What is SHPEjr?
The SHPE Foundation created the SHPE Jr. Chapter Program to support local high school students in overcoming persistent educational barriers and to encourage them to pursue STEM studies and careers. SHPE Jr. Chapters are established by local SHPE Student and Professional Chapters in partnership with school administrators at accredited high schools within the United States and Puerto Rico. Jr. Chapters provide youth with opportunities to participate in hands-on STEM activities.
Goals and Values
The goal of the SHPE Jr. Chapter Program is to provide educational opportunities and support high school students in order to expose them to STEM educational and career options.
The main goals of the SHPE Jr. Chapter Program are to:
- Increase awareness about STEM careers
- Build self-esteem
- Convey a positive attitude towards academic excellence
- Encourage and support parental commitment to education
- Provide support throughout the college application process
- Increase access to college for Hispanic students
- Increase cultural awareness of Hispanic contributions to STEM
The SHPE Jr. Chapter Program was developed around the following core values:
- Teamwork
- Integrity
- Ethics
- Respect
- Leadership
- Communication
- Organization

SHPEjr is great way for you to get involved with the community and to help out with local high school students by taking an active role as a mentor. Take charge in creating events and activities that you would like to lead to develop your leadership skills and to influence high school students to become great future leaders. If you are interested in helping the SHPEjr committee and want to be a part of running the SHPEjr Chapter please contact shpejrfowler@gmail.com
Joining the SU Chapter of SHPE is only the first step to your professional success. By joining it at a national level, it opens up the doors to many opportunities.
Internship Opportunities

As a member of SHPE, you can become a leader at the university level, the regional level and the national level.
Build/Expand your Network
SHPE offers several events throughout the year, which provide opportunities to meet and connect with other SHPE members across the country, from other students to corporate leaders and SHPE leaders.
Professional/Career Development
Competition opportunities to test and refine your academic and technical talent. There's also GRE/GRAD labs to guide you through the graduate school application process.
