Calypso Connections at Rutland Town School

The Rutland Town School Friends Music Department is excited to announce that RTS will be having Calypso Connections, under the direction of Jennifer Cohen, conduct a residency with K-8th grade students at RTS from March 20-31. The residency will feature playing on steel drums and will take place over the course of two weeks during music classes. Students will learn about the steel drum and its history, they will learn about steel drum music, they will learn how to play the steel drums, and they will learn how to play together in an ensemble to make great music!

We are planning on having a culminating performance on Thursday, March 30 for parents and the community to enjoy. More details to follow. We hope to see you there and we are excited to welcome Jennifer Cohen to teach us all about the steel drums!

Tapestry Update

As you are all aware, we have had difficulty this year in working with Tapestry in securing an after-school program at RTS. Marie Gilmond, Tapestry program coordinator, has done an admirable job in trying to secure staffing for this program over the course of this year, but has not had much success. We have decided to end our partnership with Tapestry at the end of this current school year. Over the remainder of this school year, we will be exploring different ways in which we can provide after-school programming for our students for the 2023-2024 school year at RTS.

Volunteers Needed

We can always use additional volunteers from our school community. Please touch base with your child's teacher for a time to be in the classroom, teach a "Four Winds" lesson, help with a lesson, or assist with the PTO. We feel the more you know and the more you are involved, the more our children will benefit. We are always looking for volunteers, especially during lunch and recess times 10:30 A.M.-1:17 P.M.

Please contacft Kristine McGuiness at the GRCSU central office if you want to volunteer and/or chaperone field trips at kristine.mcguiness@grcsu.org , 802-775-4342, ext. 2101.

Signs and Symptoms to Keep/Send Children Home

§ Temperature over 100 degrees F

§ Uncontrolled cough or difficulty breathing

§ Vomiting twice within 24 hours: persistent diarrhea

§ Severe headache, especially with a fever

§ Red eyes with dark/colored or "crusty discharge: discolored nasal discharge

§ Severe ear pain

§ The presence of a skin rash, especially with other symptoms

§ Sore throat more than 48 hours, especially if accompanied with fever

§ Inability to pay attention and participate in school due to acute psychological or physical issues.

Please do not send your child to school sick. Children who attend school are expected to participate in school fully, including recess and PE. This is challenging if they are not feeling well. Giving your child rest and increased fluids for 24 hours will help them get better. If their symptoms improve and they are well enough to participate in school fully they may return to school.

If your child has Covid-19 symptoms or test positive for covid-19 please follow the Vermont Department of health guidelines. Covid-19 Guidelines

The survey can be found here.

In addition, the GRCSU would like to personally invite all staff members, parents/guardians, families, students, as well as any interested community members to join our GRCSU Strategic Design Team. If you are interested, please reach out to Kristine McGuiness (kristine.mcguiness@grcsu.org). These Design Team meetings will be held in person at West Rutland School on the following dates/times:
