Mr. Doyle's Message
I wanted to share with you a little more information about a new student centered group that we have teamed up with at Creekside Middle School, called Student Advisory Teams. Each grade (6, 7, 8) has a group of students who meet once a month during advisory. The goal for these students is to share their experiences, insights, and concerns with our staff to help create a way for students to positively impact Creekside. We encourage these students to be leaders among their peers to advocate for positive change in their school community each day! Our students have already shared wonderful insight and we plan to continue growing opportunities for student advocacy and input.
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out.
Enthusiastically,
Mr. Doyle

7th Grade
MATH:
We are currently in our equations unit. We just started 2 step equations. This unit is a skill that will be built on in 8th grade and high school. Students need to make sure they have a strong foundation this year.
ADVANCED MATH:
We are starting our functions unit. Students will determine whether a relation is a function, along with if it is a linear function. We will also be writing situations that coincide with piecewise graphs.
LITERACY:
In literacy, students will be learning how to analyze a documentary. From voice over narration, sound effects, interviews, and footage, students will be learning the elements that make up this genre. Ask you student about Craig Kielburger and It Takes a Child!
DUAL LITERACY:.
In DL literacy we have been analyzing two different artists whose creations play with perspective and optical illusions. These coming weeks, we will be working in an argumentative essay: Seeing is believing?
SOCIAL STUDIES
After break, our students started developing our argumentative presentations answering the essential question: Early James: Why so many Colonists die? Previously we analyzed historical documents and annotated them to find evidence for our presentation. Currently we are developing a presentation using an argumentative structure, first developing an Introduction paragraph and subsequently 3 paragraphs supporting 3 reasons why the colonialist died.
SCIENCE:
The students are learning about viruses and how they affect cells. We’ll then move into genetics. Keep an eye out for your student solving punnett squares! They may even create a creature, mate it, and see what the offspring will look like!
Creekside Winter Hats!
Kindness Closet
CMS Associate Position Openings!
WONDERFUL Creekside staff members! I will then share your words with the whole Creekside Staff as a Token of Appreciation! :)
The health, safety, and wellness of our students is a priority for our CMS Student Services department.
