WHAT'S HAPPENING

Math: This week we continued our geometry unit and learned about solid shapes: cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, rectangular prism and pyramid. We talked about flat surfaces and vertices and identified how many were on each shape. Look for these shapes in the world around you with your student!

Reader's Workshop: This week we began making our posters about our topic area. We are using the facts we learned from both our fiction and nonfiction books to create posters. We will share these next week.

Writer's Workshop: This week we continued our work in our publishing houses. The students are so excited about having the freedom to choose if they want to write stories, how-to books or opinion pieces.

Science: This week we began our animal research projects. Each student selected a zoo animal and has began gathering information about their animal. We are learning so many interesting things about our animals!

LEADERS IN ROOM 108

This week we enjoyed Line Creek Career Day. It was a great way for us to Begin with the End in Mind. In first grade we heard from a variety of careers: pilot, dental hygienist, yoga instructor, police dispatcher and martial arts instructor. We wrote about what career we would like to have one day!

ZOO FIELD TRIP

Don't forget a few reminders for the field trip:

  • Bring a SACK lunch in a disposable bag. Same goes for drinks.
  • Wear comfortable shoes - there will be lots of walking.
  • Wear weather appropriate clothes, check the weather beforehand!

LEADER IN ME PARENT SURVEY

As a requirement of the Leader in Me grant we received, we’re asked to collect parent feedback. Please take a few moments to complete the survey by clicking the link:

We greatly appreciate your feedback. Your responses will be used to continue to build leaders in our Line Creek community. Thank you!

SUMMER SCHOOL

If you have not considered Summer School for your child, you may want to give it a try. In my opinion and past experience, students can regress over the summer months unless they are engaged in reading and problem solving activities daily. Please let me know if you need enrollment form.
