Scheduling Night
It is hard to believe, but we will soon begin course selection for the 2020-2021 school year! As noted on the school calendar, on February 13th, we will hold a Scheduling Night from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Below are the details for the evening.
6:00 pm Presentation for incoming grade 8 students and their families in the Auditorium
6:00 pm Presentation of grade 9-12 students and their families in the Lecture Hall
6:45 pm Advanced Placement Course Presentation in the Lecture Hall for sophomores, juniors or seniors and their families interesting in taking AP Courses next year. Students and families will learn about the AP Courses we are offering in the 2020-2021 school year, the workload, and a little about the summer assignment.
7:00 - 8:00 pm Teachers will be available to answer individual questions about the appropriate placement of students in the 2020-2021 school year.
We are viewing the 13th as our kick-off into the scheduling season. After February Vacation, the school counseling staff will be going into classrooms to talk to students and we will also hold class meetings to discuss new course offerings to all students.
Just as in previous years, parents will be able to view course recommendations on the community portal. We will contact you once the recommendations are submitted to the community portal.

STEM Field Trip in Partnership with BVEF
The day started with a great speaker on "Soft Skills" and the importance of these skills when interviewing for a position. Then, we were able to attend two workshops. We started in a biology laboratory; in the lab, students were able to work with and be exposed to equipment that is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some examples are carbon dioxide pads, micropipetting robots and one liter bioreactors The bioreactors mimic what is used today to create biologic pharmaceuticals such as Humeria. The students were taught how to use carbon dioxide pads to learn more about the genetics of fruit flies. Next, the students were brought to an optics laboratory and the students were given a snapshot of quantum physics along with the science behind 3D glasses and virtual reality.
Overall, it was a great experience.
BHS Jazz Band
BHS Jazz Band had the opportunity to have a special rehearsal clinic with Mr. Paul Alberta, retired Norwood Music Director and highly acclaimed jazz educator on Wednesday, February 5th. Music teacher Mr. MacDonald and our jazz band students worked diligently during the evening rehearsal to improve and polish the jazz band literature for their jazz festival performance next week. Special thanks to the Bellingham Friends of Music for their support so we can bring guest conductors to Bellingham for our students!
