Mrs. Seabrook's Weekly News
September 21-25th
Here is what's going on in First Grade:
This week we:
- learned the short i vowel sound
- focused on words that end in x
- learned to read, write and put in sentences our sight words: she, up, take, what
- learned the subject of a sentence is the naming part of a sentence
- learned about animal fantasy stories. We learned they have characters that can do things that humans can do.
- We wrote an animal fantasy in writing workshop
- worked in math on addition strategies and subtraction
- In STEM we learned and explored more about animals and how they use their bodies for protection and survival. We used binoculars for eagle eyes, different sized cups for elephant ears, we explored different body coverings ( fur, scales, leather) and types of teeth.
Nash discovered what an eagle sees through his "eagle eyes."
Amelia investigated different animal ears and discussed how different animals have different sized ears for a reason.
Sean explored the different animals teeth. We sorted the tech by meat eater, plant and meat and plant eater.
Nyla and Cole investigated different animal coverings.
We looked at different animal feet and recorded what we saw.
We learned about what plant-eaters teeth look like compared to meat-eaters.
More investigating!
