Physical Properties
A physical property is a characteristic of a substance that can be observed in different forms without changing the substance. Example: Water, Ice and Steam, these 3 objects are the same substance just in different forms. Also some properties would include freezing, evaporating and melting or even breaking. Another example would be, if you mix salt with water and create salt water and then you evaporate the water this would leave you with a physical property of water, because all of the water would remain the same substance leaving all the salt behind.
Chemical Properties
A chemical property is a characteristic that is observed when two or more substances are mixed together. Example: Fire, fire is a chemical property of wood. Also some properties wood include burning, flammability and rusting. Another example would be when you put a penny in water wait a little then take it out you will see that the penny rusted.
Physical Property
Ice, a physical property of ice is melting.
Chemical Property
Burning, a chemical property of wood.
Physical Change
A physical change is a change that alters appearance or form of a substance. Example: Chopping wood and molding clay are two examples of a physical change. Another example is when you or your friend dress up, you may look different but you are still the same person, that is a physical change.
Physical Change
Molding clay is a physical change because you are only changing the form not substance.
Chemical Change
Souring of milk is a chemical change because when the milk sours it makes a new substance.
Chemical Change
A chemical change is when a substance produces new substances that have different elements or properties then the original substance. Example: The souring of milk and burning wood are both examples of a chemical change. Also another example is when you put steel wool rapped around a thermometer in a jar with water for a few minutes the thermometer and steel wool will rust. Odor change, temperature change, appearance change, color change and production of gas are all indicators of a chemical change.
