Words of Inspiration

“Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.”

–Martin Luther King Jr.

A Special Applause to...

I want to give a shout out to the PBIS Committee for their development and refinement of First Fridays. The lessons have been planned for students to be able to cycle through a series of original lessons during their time at Greene. Additionally, the schedule was tweaked to maintain regular class time and give teams the power to implement during their Flex bell. So much of the Greene School experience is about shaping education to prepare students for life. This week's lesson on accountability is one students will be able to take with them everywhere they go in life.

PD on the Fly...

I found this article and wanted to circle back to the CPR series we had last year in this section of the Boarding Pass. This article provides strategies on how to support students in the teaching process. The author, Jenny Muñiz, also provides a rationale for this practice. She states, "everyone learns new information best when it is linked to what they already know. In other words, using texts, materials, and examples that draw from students’ cultural schemas and background knowledge makes learning easier because it leverages students' existing neural pathways." Enjoy!

PTO Gifting

I wanted to share the timeline for PTO Gifting this year. The PTO Exec Board has pushed back the timing of the fall gifted. We are waiting for the outcome of the bond levy before determining gifts. If the bond issue passes, the PTO will not be purchasing furniture. Also, in order to have your submission considered, you must be a PTO member. You can check the membership list by clicking HERE (there's still time to sign up if you are not a member). We will be sharing the form for requests on November 6 and all submissions must be submitted by November 20. We will process requests on November 25 and the status of your request will be communicated to you in the weeks after.

OTES 2.0

As I shared previously, there will be an OTES meeting to discuss the pilot we are in this year. Danielle Scrase and I are traveling to all seven schools in the district to talk about this pilot and answer questions. We have created a presentation that I wanted to get in your hands before we meet. The Greene School meeting will be on Tuesday, October 8 starting at 7:20 in the Media Center. You can view the presentation by clicking HERE. One of the big topics of discussion is High Quality Student Data. Before we meet, I want to set your mind at ease. You probably already have an assessment that you use that qualifies as HQSD. There is criteria in the presentation for you to look at. The biggest change in the new model is there is less of an emphasis on student results on an assessment and more focus on what you do with the results.

Books and Bagels

Books & Bagels will be on Thursday, October 24. It is the sneak preview for staff (with bagels, donuts, coffee, and teacher raffles) for the Greene School book fair.

The Book Fair runs from October 24 (beginning at 3:30) to November 1 (ending at 11:00 am).
