Welcoming Winter at MJS!
We welcome the winter weather here at MJS, enjoying the cooler temperatures and much-needed rainfall. Students may wear winter and rain gear, in keeping with uniform guidelines. All coats, jackets, sweaters, umbrellas, and other school items should be clearly marked with your student's name. Please allow enough time for morning carpool arrival, and possible rainy day dismissal for afternoon carpool. Many thanks!
Hour of Code: January 13
Middle School students will be coding on Wednesday, January 13 during afternoon advisory. We live in a world surrounded by technology. Whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. Students at Mayfield have already been busy coding and learning about computer science this year. We are participating in the global movement to reinforce these important skills to students. ~Ms. Bononi
Friday Field Trip: January 15
Friday, January 15, fifth graders will be going on an all-day field trip to Tree People, which is located in Coldwater Canyon. (www.treepeople.org). We'll leave MJS at 8:15 and plan to return in time for regular dismissal at 2:25, using school buses. It will be a free-dress day; students are to dress for the weather. We'll be walking outside on wooded trails and getting hands a bit dirty in the soil. No open-toed shoes are allowed. In years past, rain has postponed this trip, so cross your fingers.
Please pack a waste-free lunch; there will be no place to buy food or drink there. This means use reusable containers. We'll compost any vegetable waste, such as orange peels and apple cores. The four fifth-grade advisors, Ms. Berger, and Ms. Lin will be chaperoning. Contact one of us if you have any questions.
Volunteers Needed: January 29
Mosaic Month is a beautiful celebration of the cultural diversity that exists in our community and we rely on our parent volunteers to help make it happen. The culminating event is the International Heritage Fair on Friday, January 29th. If you are interested in either creating a cultural table for the fair or in helping out behind the scenes, please contact Ms. Myvonwynn Hopton as soon as possible. Thank you!
