LCCC report was given by Dave Kennedy:
Linda Perlman-McKenna shared a recap of this month's CAC meeting which explored LCTI program offerings. It was a great and enlightening presentation. Dual enrollment and AP course offerings were discussed. The next meeting is 3/21 and will be on School Safety and the role of a School Resource Officer. The meeting is open to the public and will be at the Admin Center at 7 PM.
Rob Cohen shared a Library update. The library will hold a retreat next week that will be open to the public as they prepare to redo their strategic plan.
Carol Facchiano gave a Parkland Foundation report as follows:
Barry Dobil is donating an antique MG roadster to the Parkland Education Foundation. The car was in need of new upholstery and carpeting. Barry contacted Moss Motors (the makers of MG parts) and was able to get them to donate new seat upholstery and carpeting to update the MG. The students at LCTI are going to do the restoration of the car. Moss motors was so intrigued by our story that they are going to feature it in their magazine. They are also going to market the auction to fellow MG lovers. This is great marketing for the Foundation. What an amazing story of a community coming together to support public education.
Our Staff Celebrate Innovation Grants are open: applications close March 17th
Gala sponsorships and tickets are live. The Gala is May 22nd at Muhlenberg College. You can buy tickets online here.
On February 10th we held our Ladies Day Out at Randall’s. It was a great success!! We received over 50 auction items and bottles of wine for the Gala event. A huge thank you to Randall’s for hosting this wonderful event.
Bob Bold gave a legislative update. If new legislation passes regarding cyber charter funding, Parkland stands to gain about $500,000 annually.
Rob Cohen and Lisa Roth did not approve payments to any Cyber Charter Schools to illustrate their disgust at funding the under performing schools with tax dollars.
Roundtable
The School Board remarked that the Safe2Say video was amazing and they were impressed with all of the student work that was done on the video. The music, the scripts, the incorporation of three secondary schools, brief cameos by the staff, and student participation was very well done.
Kudos to administration to have kids participate in a major way of the rollout of the Safe2Say program. The anonymous tip reporting system has been used by the community and communication about tips has been appreciated by the community.
Parkland is proud to instill a sense of giving back to the community. Lisa Roth was honored to have been at the District-wide Food Drive culminating event where she learned that our drive is the single largest food drive in the whole Lehigh Valley.
