What's buzzing at HES?
December 2020
Tis the Season
With 16 days remaining until our Winter Break, we've got several activities in store for students. This week students will begin mid-year benchmark testing in the areas of Reading, Writing and Math. Please encourage students to get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast and give it their best shot on the benchmark tests. We use these assessments to inform our instruction and to show academic growth throughout the school year. Next week (Dec. 7-11), our PTO is hosting the annual Santa Shop at the American Legion building. Classes will walk over to the Legion building during their scheduled times. We are asking that students wear face masks to the Santa Shop. Please find more information about shopping times in your child's classroom newsletter. Just a reminder, that due to COVID-19 and social distancing restrictions, we are unable to host our annual Christmas Program in-person. However, Mrs. Finch and Mr. Wehmeyer have been teaching the students holiday songs and these will be recorded during music and band times the week of December 14th. The Christmas Program video will be shared with families via email, on the Facebook PTO page and the elementary webpage prior to Winter Break. Please see the information below regarding the PHS Drama Club's Christmas Movie Tour on December 5th. School breaks for Winter Break on December 22nd at 1pm, and school will resume on January 5th.
Once again, thank you for all you are doing to help us maintain a safe and healthy environment here at school. We appreciate you keeping students home if they are exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. Due to your continued diligence and that of the HES staff, we have been able to continue to offer in-person learning and maintain an overall daily attendance rate of 96.46%. Our current enrollment is 286 students in Preschool-5th grade.
Thank you for partnering with HES to create a great learning environment for our Hornets. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please don't hesitate to reach out.
