Talking award books and new books!

Wow, I can't believe another week of school is already behind us! It sure was a great week in the library.

Third graders and I talked a little more about the award books for this school year and I encouraged them to read from both the Goldfinch Award List and the Iowa Children's Choice Award List this year. Third graders are kind of stuck in the middle of the two lists. The Goldfinch books are not going to necessarily challenge the third graders but the Iowa Children's Choice books may be too mature for some or too difficult to read.

I reminded them that they can vote for either award list and that this is only one fun thing we do in the library and that there are many, many books that are wonderful and enjoyable at the library.

We had some new books arrive at the library this week and the kids were very excited about them! We have some new nonfiction series now that include science experiments, weather events and historical disasters, they all seemed very interested in Hurricane Katrina in particular.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer, even a few minutes here and there is much appreciated!
