The Gift of STEAM

Families and students enjoyed a recent STEAM night at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School. Lots of things were explored, built and discovered while families enjoyed pizza and cookies. Planting for Impact

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 24, 2020. Florida's Arbor Day is a state celebration that is held the third Friday of January. Hilliard Middle-Senior High School's FFA and Ag Education students, led by Mrs. McCullough, celebrated the third Friday in January to work around Pine Tree Planting season.

Agriculture Education students at HMSHS get the opportunity to work hand in hand with Mr. Jim Tootle, our county forester in managing the Hilliard FFA Chapters 60 acre forest. The students worked with county foresters to plant over 2,000 pine trees in the FFA Forest. Students not only get to learn about reforestation with Rayonier, Westrock, and the Forestry Department, they get a multitude of opportunities to put their skills to the test. FFA Vice President Jennifer Martin says, "We aren't just planting trees, we are creating a sustainable economic opportunity for the next group of students coming in behind us". With Pine Trees being the number one crop in Northeast Florida its imperative students learn their economic impact and explore and experience career opportunities right here in our county.

Rosalinda Willetts was instrumental in helping Bryceville exceed the United Way campaign donations from last year and received recognition for it on the 100th day of school. Doesn’t she make a great senior citizen?

Adopt-A-Soldier is an initiative that all K-12 schools participate in. This project is ongoing throughout the year. The soldiers that received local gifts send an email of gratitude and included pictures with their trees and Christmas decorations. The troops of B 1-265th ADA, Zagan, Poland were thrilled to receive their package.
