Student-Participants Setting Record Attendance Numbers
At Howell we know that being involved in an activity, club or sport helps to increase academic performance, improve attendance, and create attachment and a higher sense of pride in being a student at Francis Howell High School. So far this school year 1,212 students have been involved in an activity, club or sport and the outcomes from these students have been impressive. Currently, our Howell Student-Participants have a 96.30% attendance rate for the school year. This is 3% higher than those that are not involved in an activity, club or sport at Howell. This 3% difference equates to student-participants attending six more days of school over the course of the school year. Below you can find a list of programs that currently have over 97% attendance for the school year. Congratulations to our student-participants, coaches, sponsors and parents for setting such high standards in our activities and sports as well as in the classroom.

Limelight Theatre Presents: A Night Of One Acts
The FHHS Limelight Theatre will be hosting the Winter One Acts on Friday, December 14th at 7:00 pm. This year’s One Acts are productions directed by three Francis Howell students: Marissa Gibbons, Lilly Moore, and Allie Thornton.
Senior Marissa Gibbons is directing Cut! by Ed Monk. This short play is a comedy about a play inside a play inside a play. The characters can't seem to remember who they really are, as opposed to the people they are playing in any scripts. The laughs start rolling as things get more and more confusing.
Sophomores Lilly Moore and Allie Thornton are co-directing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 21 Chump Street: The Musical. This 14-minute musical is based on a true story where an honors student falls for the new transfer student who’s not what she seems to be. The student ends up being charged for selling drugs, but did he really do it or was he just trying to impress the girl?
These performances are one night only, December 14th, at the FHHS Auditorium, 7001 Highway 94 South, St. Charles. The doors open at 6:30 pm and the curtain rises at 7:00 pm each night. Tickets are available at the door for $5. Concessions will be offered between the acts.

Raven Robotics Earns $5,000 Grant
FHSD high school students on Raven Robotics Team 1288 work together to build robots to compete in an annual challenge, but one of the biggest challenges every year is securing the necessary funding. Enter the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, which recently awarded a one-time $5,000 grant to Raven Robotics to support their FIRST Robotics activities. FIRST enables teams of students to compete with others in building, designing and programming their own robots to perform preassigned tasks, giving young students a chance to get involved with real-world engineering.
“The way the grant was set up it went directly to FIRST Robotics and is paying for some of our contest fees,” said FHHS Science and Engineering teacher Dane Williamson. “At this point, we have about 60 students in the club, and we have been building a practice robot this fall so our new members get experience. We don’t know the details of the competition yet this year except it has something to do with space. The season officially kicks off in January.”
FIRST Robotics combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology.
“Allowing today’s students to learn STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills through hands-on experiences is crucial to preparing our next generation to drive innovation and overcome challenges,” said Michelle Insco, Monsanto Fund program officer. “Monsanto Fund invests in future scientists and engineers like those in Francis Howell and encourages their involvement in programs like FIRST Robotics.”
The Monsanto Fund’s sponsorship of FIRST Robotics teams continues the nonprofit’s support of programs that improve STEM education. Over the past five years, the Monsanto Fund has contributed over $40 million to STEM outreach efforts.
