Raider Time This Week

Hello Raider Nation --

It is hard to believe there are only two weeks left of school! The year has FLOWN by! Sam sent out an email last week with the final exam schedule from HCPSS. Please refer to the schedule below. Let us know if you have any questions.

As you already know, our Doomsday scenario for staffing cuts was taken off the table (yay!). As a result, we will not have to eliminate the 4.8 staff positions as previously required. Atholton finds itself in a very good position regarding staffing for next year. We did lose our Math Instructional Support Teacher, Jennifer Mulllinix, who worked with our math department once a week. Otherwise, we are looking to hire an ALS paraeducator and a part-time Spanish teacher. Given the amount of surplus candidates, I do not anticipate any new hires for these positions only surplus placements.

Our PTSA has elected a full slate of new volunteers for the Executive Board. The president will be Monica Lewis. Below is a list of the full board. They are seeking staff representation on the Board. Please let me know if you are interested in attending the monthly meetings and speaking on behalf of the staff – a voice absent this year (which may have contributed to some of the unexpected changes). There will be a student representative from the Principal’s Advisory Committee assigned to the Board.

President: Monica Lewis
1st Vice President: Dede Matrangola
2nd Vice President: Laurie Mowrey
Recording Secretary: Kristin Smoot
Corresponding Secretary: Sue Clemens
Treasurer: Hongfei Zhou

PTCHC Representatives: Lisa Rhodes and Tonya Davis

Our values activity (coined the Motley Initiative by our journalism students) is about to conclude. The final piece of the puzzle is for students to narrow their choices. A focus group last week worked together to come up with definitions for final values. This Thursday, JUNE 13, we will hold an extended Raider Time to allow students to cast their votes for two items: narrowing student values and SGA elections. Below is the modified schedule we will use this Thursday. Students will transition to their THIRD period class and engage in the voting. Please plan accordingly.

Period 1 – 7:25 – 8:05

Period 2 – 8:10 – 8:45

RAIDER TIME (Period 3) – 8:50 – 9:30

Period 3 – 9:35 – 10:25

(Resume Regular Raider Time Schedule)

More information from Katie Meloro (Values) and Thomas Stuppy (SGA) this week on procedures during Raider Time.

Everyone should have received their End of Year Checkout Packet. I have attached a copy of the packet below.

Lastly, a huge THANK YOU to all who made the 8th Grade visit on Wednesday a success. The Class of 2023 left our school excited about coming to Atholton. It took a great deal to coordinate the visit with the student panel and our activities fair. It is interesting that there were several questions about the dress code for next year – go figure!

Enjoy the New York Times article below!

Have a fantastic week!

See you tomorrow.
