Elkton Elementary School Memo
February 15, 2021
A Note from Mrs. Palmer
Dear EES Families,
This winter's weather has added to the inconsistency of students being in school. As you know, we can't control the weather. RCPS at this time does not make up school days with virtual learning at home. This is because not all families have access to the internet. With that said, EES teachers are providing suggestions and activities for your child to do while at home on a Snow Day. Reviewing for a test, studying sight words, reading a good book, practicing multiplication facts, and or catching up on assignments are things your child can do from home. Not all involve using the internet. I also hope your child can get outside and play during a Snow Day. Some of my favorite memories of a child are sledding on the hill near our home and building a snow fort.
READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK- March 1-5. EES will celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading by having dress up days at school.
During morning announcements this month, I am sharing thoughts on being kind and caring for one another. February is Kindness Month.
Did you know it takes about 21 days to develop a new habit? Here's your opportunity to develop a new one!
February 2021 is National Random Acts of Kindness Month.
Kindness week in Virginia is February 14- 20, 2021.
National Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17, 2021.
Take the RCPS Daily Random Acts of Kindness Challenge!
- Use this calendar or create one for yourself, your family, your students, your neighborhood !
- Make a conscious effort to show kindness every day and by the end of the month you will have created a new habit that will have a positive impact on yourself and those around you!
- Make kindness more than a special week or day...make it a habit for EVERY day!
I wish you well...

Inspire Award- Nominate a teacher
child by nominating him/her for the Inspire Award. This award
aims to recognize teachers who go above and beyond in the
classroom. Parents, students, pre-service teachers, or classroom
volunteers may submit nominations.
The Inspire Award allows the School Board and community to
regularly and publicly celebrate the impact that RCPS teachers make
each day, whether on a particular child or class, or by encouraging a
future teacher.
A teacher may be recognized once during a school year and
submissions must be received ten days prior to a board meeting.
The person making the nomination will be invited to share his/her
nomination essay of up to 200 words with the school board, and will
make the presentation of a certificate to the honored teacher.
The nomination form can be found on the RCPS website under “Parents”.
