Dear GRE Families,
It was another great week at GRE! This week I had the chance to be in almost every classroom. Our students were hard at work whether learning about the negative effects of smoking or how to recognize a closed syllable-their brains were on fire!
If you have an upcoming Kindergartner or Preschool student, be sure you read through registration information below. Registration begins in just a few weeks. Keep encouraging your children to practice good hand hygiene while at school and be sure to follow our policies on illness. These can be found at the bottom of every newsletter. Let's all work together to keep each other healthy.
Over the past several newsletters I have been reminding families that they must use the parent drop off line and not the bus line during arrival. I continue to see families using our bus loop. This is a safety risk to our students and must stop. If you are a family that has been using our bus loop, please plan accordingly to follow our arrival procedures so that all students are safe.
Here's to a GREat week at GRE!

2. Neighborhood Bridges, a non-profit charity headquartered in Westerville, Ohio will be launching its Gateway for Kindness to serve the Big Walnut Schools community in Sunbury, Ohio. A 501(c)(3) organization, neighborhood bridges has driven direct support and care to more than 35,175 children and families in just 3 years by inviting school districts, mental health agencies, and clergy to advocate for those in need – then engaging each community to come together to help solve those needs. Big Walnut Bridges will be led by volunteer Area Directors Megan Truax and Julie Adams, who are both Big Walnut residents and active in the community. School district counselors and advocates will post needs on behalf of students and families. Big Walnut Bridges will work with key stakeholders in the community to engage all resources to help drive direct support and care to our students and neighbors in need. 3. Our District has an operational levy on the ballot on March 17. This ballot issue will not raise taxes; it is a continuing levy that would replace a levy that is set to expire at the end of 2020. This levy represents 12% of our budget, and it is crucial in funding daily expenses such as teachers, utilities, and supplies. To vote in the election, voter registration must be completed or updated by February 18. For more information, please visit the levy page on our website: March 17, 2020 Levy Information
