Roadrunner Report
January 27, 2023
Hi Aspen Families!
Here are some updates and important information:
Highlight of the Week
INTERESTED IN BEING A CAMPUS SAFETY ASSISTANT?
Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge Update
Thank you to everyone who has donated recyclables to the Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge! For the month of January, we collected 92 lbs. of plastic wrap -- our largest haul yet! We are making excellent progress while keeping plastic out of our homes, the environment, and landfills.
As a reminder, please do not include any plastic containers or food items in the Trex recycling bin. Acceptable plastic wrap should be clean and dry and labeled with recycling logo 2 or 4 or have a plastic wrap logo. Pet food bags, floral wrap, and candy bags are unfortunately not eligible for this program. Kindly remove receipts and cut out shipping labels and stickers prior to recycling, as they will disrupt the sorting machines.
The campaign ends on April 15th, so please continue to drop off your recyclables in the Trex bin located in the Aspen courtyard. Thank you for your support!
2022-2023 Opt-In Communication for CVUSD Advisory Council/Committee Updates
In CVUSD, parent/guardian engagement and participation is a top priority! Participation is encouraged through many organizations and activities. Several CVUSD Advisory Councils/Committees that support parent/guardian participation are listed below, with the OPTION for you to select any or all to receive communications from the school’s identified parent/guardian representative and/or from school site administration. This communication would provide information and updates to you related to the Advisory Council/Committee meetings. Please select the Council(s)/Committee(s) that you would like to receive information and updates on, approximately monthly. If you have students at multiple school sites, please submit the form for each school. Additionally, if you opted-in last year, please plan to do so annually. Importantly, should you choose to opt-in to receiving these updates, the parent/guardian representative for the Advisory Council(s)/Committees(s) and/or the administration will not share your email address with others. You also have the ability to opt-out at any time in the event you no longer wish to receive the Advisory Council/Committee information.
If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Dr. Craven at scraven@conejousd.org.
To access the Advisory Council/Committee Opt-In Form, please use this LINK.

Many thanks to the Giese family - especially Chef Adrian - for helping to make this event a DELICIOUS success!
AmazonSmile
As you may know, AmazonSmile will be winding down on February 20. Thank you to all of you who supported Aspen by selecting us for your charity of choice. It has truly made a difference! Recently, Aspen supporters received an email letting them know that their selected charity, Aspen Parent Faculty Association, has not registered with AmazonSmile and to select a new charity by February 19. We have reached out to AmazonSmile and are diligently working to resolve this issue. To our knowledge, we are still registered with AmazonSmile and we are awaiting their response. Thank you for your patience!
Aspen Elementary Science Fair
COMING SOON! Wednesday, April 19, 2023 – 5:00 -7:00 pm
As we begin 2023, it is time to start thinking ahead to The Annual Aspen Elementary Science Fair! Students will have the opportunity to complete a science project, which will be displayed at a school-wide event on Wednesday, April 19th from 5-7pm in the MPR.
Students can complete the project independently or with a group. All work is to be done outside of school and each individual/group will be required to complete a trifold display. Trifold Science Boards will be made available for purchase through the school. A letter will go home and announcements will be made upon the availability of such boards. You are not obligated to obtain the board through the school.
Students wishing to participate in the Science Fair must submit a Project Proposal by March 1st to the office or their teacher. These will be sent home in the beginning of February. Those interested students will be given a Student Preparation Guide, which contains all the important information that will help students complete their projects. Final projects are due on the night of the Science Fair and students will report to the Aspen MPR between 4-5 pm to check-in and set up their display.
Do you have older children in middle school or high school? Students may volunteer for community service to help with the Science Fair setup, organization and cleanup. An announcement will be made approximately one month before the event regarding specific volunteers needed.
If you would like to help out at the Science Fair or if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jasmine.nottingham@gmail.com. Thank you and please encourage your child to participate in this year’s Aspen Science Fair.
