Principal Spotlight: Shannon Houston, Watauga Middle School

Watauga Middle School principal, Shannon Houston, writes and distributes an informative campus newsletter using the on-line newsletter site, Smore. Her informative weekly Smore spotlights teachers and students, and it also keeps the staff informed of dates and events. Shannon also includes links to pertinent sites and blogs for teachers/PLCs. Campus-wide expectations are highlighted in the Smore as another way for the administration team to reinforce instructional best practices, including photos from actual WMS classrooms.

Happy New Year!

The Digital Learning department strives for continuous improvement in everything we do so that we can best support impactful, digital learning in all BISD classrooms. In that spirit and in the spirit of the new year, we are debuting “new and improved” district Twitter chats!

The wonderful 15-Day Holiday Twitter Challenge brought many new BISD faces into the Twitter conversation, and we hope that these new changes will encourage even more new faces to join our tweeting PLN. If you have any questions, please contact your friendly digital learning specialist via e-mail or in person. We would love to answer any Twitter questions that you may have.

Just For Elementary: App of the Week

Seesaw empowers students of any age to independently document what they are learning at school. Students capture learning with photos and videos of physical work, or by adding digital creations. Everything is uploaded and kept organized for teachers. Teachers can invite families to Seesaw so parents get an immediate, personalized window into their child's learning.

Student Tool of the Week: Adobe Post!

Adobe Post is yet another easy and visual option from our friends at Adobe. This app allows users to "create stunning graphics in seconds." Students can use them to make quick posters, memes, brochures, or social media posts. The possibilities are endless.

Teacher Tool of the Week: Scavr!

Scavr is another scavenger hunt app that teachers can use to give sets of directions to students to access in teams. At least one student per group needs a smartphone to record the group's "finds."
