Class of 2022 Weekly Review
Week of October 26, 2020
A Note from Mrs. Opdyke
I cannot believe we've reached the last week of October! This year is flying by! As we approach the conclusion of the 1st Marking Period, please be encouraged to check in with your teachers if you are struggling with your classes, need additional help, or are looking to improve your grades. Finish this marking period strong!
Another big day coming up is Election Day. This year's election season has been highly contentious with strong feelings from all perspectives. I ask you to be cognizant of your words and actions around this time. We want to foster civil discourse here at CB South. We want you to be able to listen to the perspectives of others and in turn have them listen to you. Please be respectful and kind in these conversations. Be mindful of what you say, what you post, and what you do. It is ok to disagree and debate the issues as long as it is done in a respectful and thoughtful way.
Mr. Monk, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Bui, and I will continue to be here to help in any way that we can. Please reach out if you need anything! However you are joining us for your classes, I wish you a successful week 8 of the school year.
Please stay healthy and well!
Mrs. Opdyke
Learning Mode Information
Dear South Families,
As we approach the close of marking period one, I trust that your student has adjusted to the hybrid/online or online-only instructional delivery model, and that routines and norms are beginning to settle in. Our focus continues to be the provision of a high quality education with a focus on teaching and learning, and it is in this context that I am writing to you. We realize that in some instances, the model selected by you and your student at the onset of the semester may not be working as anticipated; therefore, we want you to have the ability to switch models for the second marking period in the event your child is experiencing academic or other difficulties, and would benefit from a model change. To the extent permissible, in accordance with the spacing and social distancing guidelines under which we operate, we will make changes upon your request, as long as we can maintain appropriate spacing. Please contact Mrs. Long (dlong@cbsd.org) by no later than Friday October 30th, 2020 if you would like to make a change in your child’s delivery model. Please note that we cannot make changes between hybrid models (moving from H1 to H2); the changes are reserved for a move from virtual to hybrid, or vice-versa. If you do not wish to make a change, there is no need to respond.
Sincerely,
Jason H. Bucher
Principal

Safe2Say
Safe2Say is a valuable resource that has been set up by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a method for anyone to report a concern about a student or group of students 24/7. Please note some important reminders about the use of Safe2Say:
- If you put in a tip, please check back often for communications. The tip line is monitored 24/7 at the state level. The tip is sent to the school and/or police if it is deemed "Life Safety" immediately. It is sent in the morning if it is determined to be "Non-Life Safety." I will respond as soon as I am able to do so - this will always depend on the timing and nature of the tip.
- It is important to include as much information as possible. If you have evidence of your concerns, please share that evidence via the tip or with us. You can attach pictures and videos in the Safe2Say system.
- It is always best to try and contact Mrs. Davis, Mr. Monk, or myself directly if it is not a matter of life safety. We will likely be the ones to work through the concern and it is helpful to be able to speak directly with you.
Please remember that Safe2Say is statewide system that is used in collaboration with the State Attorney's Office, emergency responders, and school officials. It is important to know that tips are reviewed on the state level before being passed to the local police and/or school authorities. Please consider the purpose of your tip - Is it to provide another person with a way to receive help? Is it preventing an act of violence? Is it something that needs to involve local and state authorities? While the system is anonymous, abuse of the system will not be tolerated and actions will be taken if it is determined that the system is being used inappropriately.

Boomerang Awards
The CB Cares Boomerang Youth Recognition Award is a district-wide monthly program which recognizes and honors youth in our community for exemplifying and living by one of the chosen Developmental Assets for the school year. Please see the information below for the nomination form and 20-21asset poster.
Don't forget - Students can nominate themselves or their friends too.
The Healthier Community Team made a suggestion that all nominations going forward should have an example of the asset in action in regard to the student, rather than just a description of the student that "he/she shows integrity all of the time". It is really helpful in terms of differentiating the nominees since they all are great kids - examples help make the choice easier.
