Grateful at NPE
Wow! We have had a busy couple of weeks! I continue to be grateful to be the leader of this amazing school & community! In the past two weeks, we have had many amazing events to celebrate our diversity at New Prospect as well as our growth!
Check out the pictures below for our biggest event of the year, Taste of New Prospect! We had 29 countries represented with food, decorations and clothing. I want to thank all who participated by having a table and all who came to the event! It was a blast!
We also had a Pizza Party to celebrate our growth on CCRPI. There was more detail on our score in the last Panther Press. We are excited about our growth and look forward to growing more in the future!
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We all have so much to be grateful for!

From Mrs. McLeod our Counselor
Career Day is December 6th ! Do you want to help your child’s class learn more about potential careers? We are looking for volunteers that are able to come in and share information about their jobs with students on Friday December 7 from 8-10am, spending about 15 minutes each with four different classes. During your presentation you can talk about your career or what your company does. Feel free to bring in hands-on materials, show videos & other visual aids to help students understand what it is that you do and why you chose the career. Last year our students enjoyed learning about web design, nursing, real estate, business, food production, etc. We need representation from the following career clusters: Agriculture, food, and natural resources, Architecture and Construction, Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications, Business Management and Administration, Health Science, Hospitality and Tourism, Human Services, Information Technology, Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales and Service, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics. Please contact Christina McLeod if you interested or need more information: mcleodcr@fultonschools.org

Hello Panther Families,
One of my roles as Curriculum Support Teacher is to make sure all students are in an appropriate placement. This occurs at the beginning of the year with new classes, and then again at the 18 week and 36 week marks in school to ensure they are in an academically appropriate course. We are now approaching the 18 week mark in school where every student will be screened by their homeroom teacher and me to make sure they are in the correct continuous achievement level. If we see that a student qualifies for advanced placement testing, then they will take that assessment in either reading, writing, or math with me. Once all testing is complete, then letters will be sent home to families to notify you if any placement changes need to be made for next semester.
Some common questions are answered below:
Does every child get tested? – Not every child goes through additional testing, but every child DOES get screened to make sure their current placement is the best fit for them. This means we examine multiple data points on every student. Only students who meet the criteria to show that further testing is needed will go through additional testing.
When will I know if my child is being tested?- We do not send home letters at the start of placement testing, but rather once all testing is complete. The letter will notify you of the scores as well as our recommendation for placement. Only students who go through further testing will receive a letter.
How does FCS define the advanced curriculum?
The advanced curriculum is written at a different pace, depth and instructional level than the on‐level curriculum, in order to provide appropriate rigor and challenge for students.
- In reading/language arts, the advanced curriculum is aligned to on‐grade level standards and includes standards from the next grade level. In the advanced curriculum, the student can expect to read or write independently and proficiently complex text beyond what is assigned in the on‐grade level curriculum. The advanced curriculum for reading/language arts is fully implemented and available to students in grades 1‐8. Teachers in the primary grades of K and 1 provide differentiation within a grade‐level curriculum through on‐going flexible grouping that is geared to the level of challenge and pacing needs of students. Beginning second semester of first grade, students may progress to the advanced curriculum.
- In mathematics, the advanced curriculum for grades K‐5 is aligned to the second semester standards assigned for the student’s grade level and first semester standards assigned for the student’s next grade level. The pace of instruction is driven by the pace at which the student is able to achieve in-depth mastery of the standards. The advanced curriculum for Grade 6 Math consists of Grade 6 second semester standards and all Grade 7 Math standards. In order to ensure that advanced fifth graders are prepared for this accelerated pace, they will take an assessment over 6.1 content at the end of Grade 5. They must score an 80% or higher to be recommended for Grade 6 Math Advanced. Students who successfully complete the Math 6 Advanced course will be prepared for to take Math 8 in Grade 7 and Algebra I in Grade 8.
How does FCS define the accelerated curriculum?
The accelerated curriculum is aligned entirely to the standards one or more years above the assigned grade level. Students are accelerated when they demonstrate exceptional performance for their age appropriate grade level and exhibit strong skills for advancing a grade level. The accelerated curriculum in reading/language arts and mathematics is available to students in grades K‐8.
Please reach out to me via email if you have any further questions about this screening process.

Volunteers Needed for Typing Lab, Cafeteria & Book Fair
Brain Building Day volunteers oversee and assist students during their computer lab typing sessions. This volunteer opportunity recurs regularly with varying grade levels throughout the school year. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. Please feel free to sign up for any and as many shifts that work for you!
Looking to volunteer at NPE?! A new volunteer opportunity has just been added. Lunch volunteers are needed to oversee students during lunches in the cafeteria. This volunteer opportunity is offered daily, with 2 recurring shift options, 10:30-11:30 or 11:30-12:30. Although we are hoping to establish a group of volunteers who will volunteer for this position periodically, regular commitment per se is not required. We will aim to create a flexible daily schedule to fit volunteers' availability. If you are interested in being a lunch volunteer, please click the following October link. Thank you for sharing your time!
REMINDER: All volunteers must complete the Fulton County Schools volunteer registration process every two years. If you are new to the school or completed the registration before last school year, you will need to complete this process at least 48 hours prior to your volunteer shift.
Please visit https://www.fultonschools.org/volunteer to get started. The process for volunteering takes about 30 minutes total and includes about 20 minutes of online mandatory child abuse reporting training required by the State of Georgia for all volunteers.
