From the Desk of Ms. Clark

Dear Parents,
“Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give.” As we prepare for Thanksgiving, we are reminded that success in life does not come from what we have, but from what we give. Giving someone a present is one type of generosity. But, giving your time, your talents, or your friendship can make an even bigger difference.
By teaching and modeling manners, giving, generosity, and respect, we are helping our children to make and keep friends, excel in school, and feel fulfilled. Here are some ways you can help your children grow in Christian service and understand that the more we give, the more we get out of living.
- Ask your children to go through the pantry at home and find any canned goods that haven’t been used within the last 6 months. If they’re not being eaten, give them to a family who can use them!
- Request that your children pick out one item each at the grocery store to contribute to the local food pantry.
- Direct your children to set aside a certain percentage of their allowance, job money, or money that came through gifts for the purpose of giving to charity. Then help them choose a charity that is meaningful to them, allow them to research it, and motivate them to write the letter telling the charity how much and why they want to donate to them.
- Visit an assisted living facility or a nursing home so that your children can sing songs, play games, and read with the seniors there.
- After every other season, have a “closet day” in which your children spend some time going through their closet and bagging up the things that are too small or unused. Then drive them to the drop off center or charity and allow them to contribute their donations
- Ask your children to help make cards or wrap presents for people outside of your family and circle of friends. Perhaps these contributions would be for the local children’s hospital or other charity. It doesn’t need to be holiday time to do this! Be different!
- Invite someone who doesn’t have family nearby to share a meal or come over for a movie. You wouldn’t believe how grateful they will be just to feel included.
- Encourage your children to call elderly family members—even extended family members– just to say hello, tell them what’s new, and ask them what they’re up to these days. A simple call can make someone’s day.
- Ensure that your children send out thank you cards. If they’re very young, have them sign them in their own way—either with their name, a drawing, or decorative stickers.
- Read books that illustrate the power of giving. Talk about the characters with your children and ask them how each character showed generosity of spirit. What did they admire?
-Dr. Robyn Silverman
During these Autumn days, let us remember that nothing lives forever- so we must be aware and appreciate God’s goodness in nature and in those surrounding us. Our generous spirit is a sign to others that we are believers and depend on the Holy Spirit to live a faithful Christian life.
God’s blessings,
Ms. Clark

The proceeds of our fundraising efforts will directly benefit the children of SKD. For more information, visit the Gala website https://skdschoolgala.weebly.com/
Lost and Found
PLEASE remember to label all student items with their names: lunch boxes, coats, sweat shirts, and sweaters. Items are always being found, and labeling will help find its rightful owner! Thank you in advance for your help! If your child is missing something, please have him or her check our Lost and Found box located in the school lobby.
Healthy Hands, Healthy Heart
Fall is here, and with the cool breeze comes the unfortunate cold and flu! If your child is sick, please keep him or her home. Please remind your child to always remember to wash his or her hands. Studies have proven that hand washing (next to the flu shot) is the BEST way to avoid colds and flu. A healthy diet and sleep also keep your immune system going, so be sure that your child gets plenty of rest!
Student Safety First
Please enter the morning drop-off car line with caution. The morning drop off is an express line; parents may not stop and get out of their cars. Students must exit from the PASSENGER SIDE only. Students MUST be ready to exit the car once pulling into the car line drop-off in order to eliminate back-up traffic. DO NOT DRIVE OUT OF THE CAR LINE. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE LINE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO EXIT.
If you need to bring your child into the school building, you MUST park your car in the front of the school and enter through the main school entrance. You must report to the office. No cars are permitted to park or idle in front of the school in the fire lane.
Late Arrivals
Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. This teaches our students respect and courtesy along with an understanding of the importance of being on time. When a child is late, it disrupts the morning routines of the classroom and often the child becomes overwhelmed.
