Who Should Attend:
K-12 Educators (i.e. teachers, specialists, administrators) looking to bring mindfulness concepts into school settings for improved learning and social interaction outcomes as well as positive well-being of students and staff.
About the Workshop:
Educators across the board report that they are seeing increasing levels of tension and anxiety in their students. They further note that this stress is starting in younger years and earlier grades. Research shows that these escalating anxiety levels can affect social development, behavior and academic performance. Relatedly, educators themselves are also experiencing higher levels of stress that impact their work, quality of life and capacity to model desirable behavior for their students. This professional learning opportunity is designed to teach mindfulness practices that can be integrated across the curriculum while assisting in classroom management and the promotion of pro-social behavior.
Outcomes:
As a result of attending, participants will:
- Identify the signs and signals of stress
- Learn the physiological, emotional and behavioral impacts of stress upon teaching and learning
- Understand the neuroscience that shows how mindfulness can change the functioning of the brain to promote increased executive functioning
- Access practical information about how other NH school districts have integrated mindfulness into the curriculum
- Experience mindfulness practices that are effective for use with students across grades levels and instructional environments
