Sabin Salutations

2/1/16-2/5/16

What Happened at School This Week?

• Our Flat Stanley project is underway! The first thing we did was share the results from the surveys taken at home. We found out so many great things. There are 11 languages spoken in their homes. One family has lived in Vernon Hills for 19 years. Six families moved to Vernon Hills because of their jobs and five moved here for the schools. The kids were also fascinated to learn about the different holidays celebrated in their homes and the traditions that they follow.

• After sharing our information, the kids started writing letters to the person(s) chosen to receive Flat Stanley.

• We continue to enjoy reading our Helen Keller book. This week, we reviewed dictionary skills and character traits. On Tuesday, we read a book all about sign language. The kids enjoyed having the opportunity to spell out words using sign language.

• We learned about Groundhog's Day.

• In math class, we took our pretest for our upcoming unit.

• During science, we started our new unit. The science unit focuses on matter. A parent letter was sent home on Thursday.
