Mr Bob's Blog
7th June 2020
Good morning Ajman Academy!
Ms Esmé has asked me to write a blog about the last few weeks, and I think that is a lovely idea.
I left the UAE during the last holiday – how long ago that seems – and visited my wife in Bangladesh.
So far, I am still stuck there!
I thought I would draw your attention to 4 things that have happened around the world during the weeks you have been learning at home.
1. SpaceX
For the first time since the Space Shuttle became too old to fly, astronauts were able to take off from America and go into space. In fact, the two astronauts are still in space and are now part of the crew of the Space Lab. You can see the space lab fly over the UAE most nights – it looks like an aeroplane moving very quickly across the sky. There is a phone app that will let you know when it is approaching.
2. The asteroid that stuck the Earth 65 million years ago!
A university in London took another look at the asteroid that struck the Earth 65 million years ago and killed the dinosaurs. They played the moment out on their computers and showed that not only was the asteroid massive, but it happened to come through the sky at a dangerous angle that threw more gas into the air than might have been expected.
3. 60 mammoths found in Mexico
Archaeologists in Mexico found the bodies of 60 mammoths. They are now trying to find out if the animals were trapped in a flood, or hunted by humans.
4.New mosaic found in Italy
Okay everybody – if Ms Esmé invites me back I will suggest some books to read over the summer!
