Park Hill Distance Learning
March 23 - April 3
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DEAYON & ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL SIEMINSKI
Southeast Families:
As you know, following spring break, the Park Hill School District will remain closed from March 23rd through April 3rd. Although we were all hopeful that it didn't come to this, fortunately, we took steps to ensure that we were prepared. Due to that, our students will continue to learn during this period of school clsoure. The Park Hill School District will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC, Platte County Health Department, and MO Department of Elementary and Seconday Education. Keep in mind that things are extremely dynamic right now and if there are any changes made to the current plan, our Superintendent, Dr. Cowherd, will provide additional information and updates.
From March 23rd through April 3rd, our amazing Southeast staff will be fully committed to supporting our families through this process. In the event that you have questions, please feel free to reach out to your student's teacher, the Southeast office, or to our administrative team. We are ALL here and willing to help with assignments, questions, or guidance.
- Southeast Office - 359-4360
- Terri Deayon, Principal - 359-6560 or DeayonT@parkhill.k12.mo.us
- Sarah Sieminski, Assistant Principal - 359-6818 or SieminskiS@parkhill.k12.mo.us
Things to Expect
- A 10 Day Distance Learning plan is posted on our district’s website and linked below. This begins on Monday, March 23.
- Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students will have low-tech and paper/pencil options available on their Distance Learning plans. Students may choose to click on links to watch videos but will not be required to be logged into the Park Hill Portal or Schoology to complete assignments.
- 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade students will have some low-tech assignments and some tech integrative assignments that will require access to the Park Hill Portal and Schoology.
- Any student K-5th needing access to paper/pencil tasks may pick up a Distance Learning packet from our building. These will be available in the front entry lobby of Southeast Elementary, labeled by grade level. Please notify Southeast office staff at 816-359-4360 to let us know you will be needing a copy.
- Many assignments are interactive but some assignments will be best completed in a quiet learning space in your home. In this space, you can provide: paper and/or a notebook and writing utensils (pencil, pen, crayons/markers/color pencils, etc.) If you do not have these items at home, parents may pick up their child’s school supplies from school. Please contact the Southeast office at 816-359-4360, so we know you will be picking these up.
- Some assignments will require a student’s independent reading book. If you do not have access to an independent reading book or need more selection you may “check-out” books online through Southeast's Library Media webpage.
We know this is a stressful time, but we are here to help however we can. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if we can be of assistance. We hope to lighten the mood and make this time fun and engaging for our students. You can expect to see our faces via videos and other ideas as we get distrance learning up and going.
We will be available beginning on Monday, March 23rd.
Sincerely,
Terri Deayon & Sarah Sieminski

TECH RESOURCES
INTERNET ACCESS AT HOME
Park Hill’s Department of Technology has a limited number of free wireless hotspots available for families who do not have reliable internet access at home. Families who have no internet access, have low-speed or dial-up internet, or can only access the internet via smart phone are great candidates for this opportunity. For more information about getting a hotspot for use at home, please contact the Department of Technology at (816) 359-5000.
In addition to our limited HotSpots, Comcast is currently offering free internet for families. Please see this link for more information.
SCHOOLOGY
Schoology is used by many Park Hill teachers as a way to organize digital content and assignments and give students a way to connect both at school and at home. It also contains a video conferencing tool which is ideal for distance learning. Parents can view their student’s assignments and course materials through Schoology Parent Access. Here are some easy instructions to set up your account, and an overview of how to navigate the system in our Parent’s Guide to Schoology.
LAPTOP CARE AND USE AT HOME
Students are expected to behave in accordance with the guidelines of the Acceptable Use Policy and Student/Parent Laptop handbook, which can be found on our website under Parent Resources > Student Technology > One-to One-Learning. We always recommend that students:
- Charge the laptop fully each night
- Use the laptop in a common area of the house
- Store the laptop in its protective sleeve on a desk or table, never on the floor
- Keep it away from food, drink, siblings and pets
Student web activity is filtered, but parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring the student’s use of the laptop. We ask that parents/guardians develop a laptop care plan to address the following:
- Use of laptop in common areas
- A safe storage location for charging
- Guidelines for web activity
- Sharing of student passwords with parents only
- Ongoing conversation about student's digital work
Find more information in the Student/Parent Laptop Handbook. If you have any technology related questions or issues, please contact the Technology Help Desk at 816-359-5000 Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
