5th Grade Parents: Voluntary Transfer Application to attend Lexington Trails Middle School
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Students currently in the 5th grade will have the opportunity this semester to visit with their middle school counselors as they plan for enrollment for their 6th grade year. We would like to take this occasion to share with you the option for Mill Creek Middle School and Monticello Trails Middle School students to request a transfer to attend Lexington Trails Middle School.
IMPORTANT: Submitting a request to transfer does not mean approval. Due to the popularity of the transfer option, placement will be determined on the number of requests received and will be approved on a space-available basis as the district plans for staffing patterns and class sizes.
Priority Deadline: January 25
Parents have the option to request a transfer now through Monday, January 25. If you can make the request at this time, please complete the online voluntary transfer request application. Submitting a request to transfer does not mean approval. Requests received after January 25 will still be considered, but may be less likely to be approved.

Bus Transportation Available
Voluntary transfer students to LTMS will be offered free bus transportation. Bus service is available on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. Routes are developed and planned around those who have registered during the open registration period for bus transportation. The district, in collaboration with First Student (transportation provider), works to keep bus ride times for students at a reasonable level. It is our desire to shorten ride times balanced with our objective to be as efficient as possible with transportation costs and resources.
Next Step
If you decide to request a transfer for your child to attend LTMS, please use the online voluntary transfer request application.
Again, this voluntary transfer option is only for students who desire to attend Lexington Trails Middle School. If you have questions, please contact your child’s current school principal.
What about transfer requests to attend other schools?
Requests for transfers for all other schools, other than Lexington Trails or De Soto High School, will follow our general transfer process which opens on May 1.
Sincerely,
USD 232 Administration
“Hero Squad” Fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Good Morning!!
We are very excited to announce that for our 10th year Clear Creek Elementary is teaming up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to participate in a “Hero Squad” fundraiser. We will have a little competition, have a lot of fun, and be able to make a difference in the lives of others.
This is a fantastic community service project for our students, and the “Hero Squad” program is not only to raise money for research and patient services, but also to teach children about cancer, philanthropy and team work. With our school donations, we will help in the fight against childhood leukemia, which is the number one cancer killer of children. Children helping children is what makes the “Hero Squad” program so unique.
When: The program will run from January 11th – January 15th.
How: We will encourage everyone to participate. First of all each student will be provided with an information letter/envelope to take home. We will NOT be collecting coins here at CCE. It will be either online or you may include a check in the envelope provided.
The Competition: In order to make this project fun for our students, we will also include a little friendly competition between classes and grades.
· The top 3 classes raising the most money will be rewarded with your favorite lunch choice during your scheduled lunchtime. There are also individual prizes to be won. To name a few, “Power ring”, “Key Chains”, “Mystery Mini”, “Hero Bracelet”, “Hero Squad T-shirt”.
I hope everyone is as excited as we are about this program, and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

COVID Reminders!
The CDC states that for optimal prevention of COVID-19 transmission, individuals should quarantine for 14 days following an exposure to someone with COVID-19. CDC is not changing the incubation period for the virus.
What are the new quarantine recommendations?
There are now two options for a shorter quarantine period:
- Exposed individuals who have no symptoms of COVID-19 can shorten their quarantine to seven (7) days if they get a negative result from a PCR test (nasal swab or saliva) taken no earlier than on day five (5) of their quarantine. If the test is negative and the person has NO symptoms, the person may resume activities on day eight (8).
- If someone chooses not to get tested, they should remain in quarantine for ten (10) days and can resume activities on day eleven (11) if they have NO symptoms.
Anyone who has been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should monitor for symptoms for 14 days and get tested if symptoms develop.
The state of Kansas and Johnson County will only rely on PCR test results to shorten the quarantine period. The PCR is more reliable than the antigen rapid test. Free PCR tests are widely available in Johnson County.

District's E-Flyer
This electronic system is used to make flyers available to parents who may be interested in the activities, programs, and events being promoted by non-profit organizations in our community.
As a community service, the Board of Education of USD 232 authorizes the distribution of information (flyers or other promotional material) of outside, not-for-profit organizations that is intended solely to notify students and their parents of opportunities to participate in youth-related programs, activities, or events that aim to improve the health, education or welfare of the students.
