Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
- Thank you parents for meeting with me last week! It is so wonderful being able to meet with you to discuss how much your child has grown! I have been thinking often this year about how hard it will be to say goodbye to this amazing group of Rock Star students after two years with them; I tear up whenever I think about it. I realize that I will not only be losing these amazing and wonderful students at the end of the year, but also their fabulous families. It is going to be hard to say goodbye! Ok...enough gushy stuff! Let's discuss what we've been up to!
- What an eventful time of year this has been! Who couldn't mention what a phenomenal job our famous people did on their living museum speeches, on character acting, as well as costumes? I mean…I felt like I was in an episode of Quantum Leap, in a sequel to Back to the Future, or had leapt right into the Magic Treehouse Series! It was fabulous! The students persevered as our room was packed for the entire hour and they were in character the whole time! Way to go Rock Stars!
- We have been working hard to learn many different ways to show and notice multiplication. Ask your child how we have used each of these: Circles and Stars, Repeated Addition/Skip Counting, Cubes, Rows and Columns, Arrays, Using Money, and Making a Table. Students are really making the connections and getting a solid foundation on all of the different ways to show and make multiples.
- We have also been studying rocks. What "Rock Star" doesn't like rocks? We had a geologist come in and show us about the three different kind of rocks. Her name was Mrs. Martin! No, it wasn't me, that was actually her name! We made her an honorary "Rock Star" for her amazing knowledge on rocks and for the fact that we believe she belongs in our room! We have been learning about sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, igneous rocks, and crystals. Ask your Rock Star about each of these! See the pictures near the bottom of the newsletter for visuals of our rock visit!
