Week of March 28
Hello Attea families, and hello to incoming 6th grade parents who will receive parent newsletters going forward. We hope everyone has been enjoying Spring Break.
We look forward to seeing students and settling back into our typical school routines. There will be some minor adjustments as we welcome opportunities to implement more regular programming. Wednesday Shield testing will continue, but we're moving it to a different location so our PE program can return to the small gym on Wednesdays. Our LRC will be reopening for after school access for students. We hope that health and safety conditions will continue to allow us to explore more ways to "get back to normal."
This coming week we will recognize Vietnam War Veterans Day on Tuesday with a special announcement. We look forward to seeing 5th grade parents at Attea for the first in-person parent night since 2019 (see below for more information). We also are happy to call everyone's attention and promote awareness about the start of Ramadan. And, of course, as a school we enthusiastically welcome the start of April (April Fool's Day is always fun and we have a special themed day for it) because it is National Poetry Month, and we will recognize it in various fun ways.

A Special Spirit Day for this Friday
2022 Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) - Next Week
Next week the middle schools will be administering the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, or IAR. According to federal law, students must take an achievement exam in reading/language arts and mathematics each year from third through eighth grade. The specific testing schedule will be finalized this coming week and shared in the next parent newsletter.
Please note that there is no official "opt out" of testing. We are required to provide all students who are in attendance on testing days with the opportunity to test. Students who are absent will be recorded as "Absent for the test." Students who are at school but choose not to take the test must remain in testing rooms. They may read a book, doodle/draw, or wait silently. They cannot access school work or their device during the testing sessions.
