Library Curbside Pickup
Hayfield Elementary School
Information
We are excited to be offering curbside pickup for library books! Here are the steps to take should you wish to take advantage of this opportunity.
1. During the weeks of September 21st and 28th, the students will be instructed on how to put holds on books using the library online catalog. Students will be instructed that they can put up to five holds on at a time, and that they can begin doing it immediately.
2. When the students put the hold on, if a book is listed as being "in" they will get a pop-up saying that their book is ready and to come and get it. DO NOT come to the school and get it yet. Due to quarantining guidelines and other reasons, the book(s) may not be ready quite yet even if they are listed as being "in". These holds might also be deleted as a result, but a student can always put another hold on the book at a later date.
3. You will receive an email stating when your hold is actually ready for pickup. For students in grades K-2, the email will go to the parent's email address that is registered with the school. For students in grades 3-6, the email will go to the student's @fcpsschools.net email address. Students in grades 3-6 will have to be checking this account regularly for the notification.
4. You will then come to the school to get the books at the scheduled pickup times. After the March 15th pickup, pickups will not be on Mondays anymore. The books will be placed outside the front entrance of the school from 8:30-3:30 for pickup. When you get the email stating that your books are ready, you may come any day Tuesday- Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm to pick up your books. You may send a neighbor or someone else to pick up the books if you are unable to do so.
5. If you are unable to come during the pickup days/times, please contact me (waergler@fcps.edu) to make other arrangements.
6. You may also return any books at this time as well. There will be a bin outside to drop them in.
7. Please watch the five minute video below. This will show you how to put holds on books using the online catalog.
8. Please keep in mind that when you are putting a hold on a book, it is like getting in a line. If a book is popular, it can take quite some time for a book to become available.
9. I also want to point out that we have a new selection of eBooks and audiobooks that your child can check out to their devices immediately. Watch the second video to see how to access these books.
10. Let me know if you have any questions! waergler@fcps.edu
