SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES: SPECIAL ISSUE
GET OUT AND VOTE! APRIL 5, 2016
Chris Close
I’m running for school board to ensure we as a community provide our children with the best opportunity to succeed.
My position as a Production Shift Manager for 11 years has taught me the necessary skills to be an effective board member. The most important of these being: Leadership, problem solving, decision making and team building.
My family and extended family are deeply rooted in the Plattsburg Educational System. My mom, dad and step dad taught and coached in the District. I have three children currently attending school here and a daughter that has graduated. My wife Shonda and I are both PHS alumni.
I owe my position in life to the advantages offered to me by a small school district. I would like to promote the unique experiences Plattsburg Schools can provide. This is my opportunity to pay it forward!

I am running for the school board because I believe in putting students first. I would like to continue improve school ratings, and perceptions of our district.
The school ratings and our financials are strong. The new administration along with the experienced staff give us a great opportunity to continue to focus on strong academics and create a culture of collaboration.
While on the board, we have made great strides in communication in the last year, but that needs to continue to be a focus. We need to manage change and make sure we are getting the desired results from our changes and adjust programs as needed to make sure we are on track.

My husband Bruce and I are the parents of Ada, grade 3. I serve as the regional relations director for Heartland Foundation, am an elder of Stony Point Church, and have been a PTA leadership volunteer for four years. I formerly owned a communications firm in Kansas City and served as Angel Flight Central’s executive director for a decade.
I want the best possible learning experience for all of our kids and feel volunteer service on the board of education would be a good match for my unique skill sets and leadership experience within both nonprofit and business organizations over the past 20 years. We have a lot of great things going on in our district. An expanded focus on creating an even more positive environment, uplifting innovation and leveraging regional collaborative opportunities to stretch limited resources will ensure we’re offering our students the best chance to succeed in our fast-changing world. I would also like to help build stronger and more supportive ties between community members and the school district.

Plattsburg is a diverse community and I feel that our school board should be as well. I believe that I would be a great asset to the board. I always have and always will put the children in our community first. Thank you.
