Students are encouraged to meet with teachers, who are working in their classrooms until 3:00 every day after school. These are opportunities for students to get clarification about homework, quizzes and tests and/or receive one-on-one assistance.
Mrs. Shepard (9th-10th grade school counselor) and Mrs. Uhl (11th-12th grade school counselor) are available to work with students to organize materials and improve study skills.
In the Study Skills section below are some resources for students to improve their study habits.

Virtual Fairs for Summer Pre-College Programs
Current high school students, parents/guardians, and education professionals are invited to register for the 2023 Summer Pre-College Opportunities Fair, January 28 from 1:00-3:30. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from leading US colleges and universities to learn more about Summer 2023 academic programs for high school students.
- Visit virtual program booths, where you can chat 1-on-1 via text or video with summer program representatives.
The Association for Pre-College Directors sponsors this event. 45 colleges and universities will be in attendance.
SAT Prep Workshop at Mount St. Mary with Brian Eldridge
On-campus course taught by Brian Eldridge, a leading SAT/ACT tutor who has offered test prep workshops for MSM students for many years. To learn more about Brian, visit his website, www.couriercollegeprep.com
Over 4 hours of thorough and engaging preparation
Comprehensive content review for every section of the SAT
Strong emphasis on
o Mental readiness
o Time-management techniques
o Establishing confident, flexible thinking
o How scores fit into the college admissions landscape
o Study blueprints for self-directed practice
The workshop is limited to 20 participants.

ArtWorks Program - ARTS for Learning WNY
- Application Due: Monday, January 30th by 5:00pm.
- Arts for Learning WNY’s signature program, ArtWorks, is a multi-disciplinary, arts-based job training program for Teen Apprentices ages 14-18, residing in the City of Buffalo. For the school year, a cohort of apprentices will engage in both arts activities and projects, led by a Teaching Artist, and professional development days to learn workforce readiness skills. The semester will consist of professional development and art workshops, guest speakers, and off-site trips to various Buffalo-based arts and cultural institutions or post-secondary institutions.
- The ArtWorks program Spring session will be from February 27th, 2023 - May 24, 2023, Monday - Wednesday, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. There will be no ArtWorks sessions with week of April 3, 2023.
- This will be a $15.00/hour paid position, with commitments and expectations that meet those of a regular job. You will be required to attend ALL scheduled sessions.
- The program will be held IN PERSON at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. 1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo, NY 14203.
Yale Bassett Award for Community Engagement
Recipients of the Yale Bassett Award for Community Engagement will demonstrate a record of creative leadership and public service, academic distinction, interdisciplinary problem solving, and experience addressing societal issues that might include, but need not be limited to, race and racism. Students with non-traditional leadership experiences or significant work experiences are also encouraged to apply.
To be considered for the Yale Bassett Award, interested students in the Class of 2024 should submit an application that will include an account of their relevant experiences and aspirations, academic record, extracurricular commitments and leadership positions. Students will also be asked to identify a teacher, mentor, coach, religious leader, community-based non-profit leader, or community member who can provide them a letter of recommendation.
