This Quarter in Review
Hello! I hope everyone reading this had another great quarter! I had a very educational quarter this year. I made new friends, I learned new standards, I got a sudden passion for learning, and I got the christmas spirit in me! I interviewed some middle school students to see how their quarter was.
Khloe S. says that “There have been “Bumps” on the way but I’ve been learning, growing and making new friends. This has been one of the most influential quarters yet.
Cheyanne G. says that she made new friends ( Kasey R) and missed 5 days of school and learned not to miss school because she had some tests to do in which she did them…
Emmy T. says that she made new friends as well ( Every girl on the cheer team and keep in mind that some of them were already my friends ) and learned that this school does not prepare us for the real world.( her words, not mine )

Opinions and Ideas
Winter Fashion Around the World
by Lucy S.
Some people may think of Santa hats and ugly Christmas sweaters when they think of Winter fashion, but I think of striped sweaters and high-heeled boots. Here’s what some people think of when I say Winter fashion:
“Uhh… clothes.”- Margaret Wilkerson
“Winter in fashion.”- Rebecca Vaught
“Snowflakes, icy, blue.” Kylee VanAtter
I think Kylee got it mostly right, this article is about Winter/Christmas fashion around the world, for people who want to get with the Winter spirit. I’m going to start off with Paris, France.
If you want to look like you are in Paris in the winter, where a fluffy warm coat, a colorful scarf, and a wool hat. Nice winter Paris outfits usually include turtlenecks, wool ponchos, or oversized cardigans as the second layer. You can complete your Paris winter outfit with a subtle top or white shirt. Make sure you are comfortable and cozy. Match it with a pair of skinny jeans and some black velvet boots. I found a picture on google images from pinterest.com-
The next place I am going to talk about is Japanese winter fashion. The color I see most is red, so a red item would be essential. This outfit should be for going out shopping in an outdoor place. Japan is a “Very walkable country” (https://www.thetravelpockets.com ) so make sure to wear comfortable shoes, maybe no-heeled boots (Uggs, BearPaw type of shoes). Wearing a heavy coat is critical for a Japanese winter fashion outfit because of the cold weather and being out and about all day. Under the coat, I would suggest you wear a cute sweater dress and some tights that match (since it only gets to around 40 degrees Fahrenheit). The picture I found this time was from lazada.com.ph (google images)-
The final place I will talk about is NYC, NY. Everyone knows it gets freezing (and below!) in the winter up there, so layers and a heavy coat are essential. I was looking through the pictures, and dark gray and black seem to be the popular colors in 2018 NYC fashion, so I think you could get a black coat, have a gray blouse under, a blue pencil skirt (for a pop of color), and a pair of tights with knee-high boots. Or you could ditch the coat and wear an oversize khaki-colored sweater. I found an example, and it’s from still google images, but harpersbazaar.com-
That is all I have for this week. Happy winter break to everyone and see you in 2-3 weeks!
Technology
Technology is a questionable resource because of how it works, but it can be very helpful or useful. One example of technology is laptops - they are not big, they are small. Laptops have many things it can do it does most work for us without them people like you and me wouldn't know most things we do First, technology is affecting us with laptops by being small and big. First, laptops can live on one charge for at least 8 hours. Second, you don't have to stay in one place with a laptop like with a desktop. Third and finally, you have newer and better memory. In conclusion, laptops are easier and more fun to have. Second, laptops can have potentially negative impacts on our health as well. First, you'll be sitting more which isn't really healthy and not recommended by doctors. Second, you'll get sucked in too far to a point to where you don't care for yourself. Third and finally, with laptops you may listen less and you don't hear and get in trouble. In conclusion, laptops affect you and me the same by making us lazy. Laptops can do even more positive things for you like giving information. The internet allows you to do what you want to do such as play games or do class work. Second, we have websites to help us or entertain us and inform us with a lot of the things like music or video. In conclusion, laptops help us with what we need. In conclusion if it's big or small or doing everything, laptops are pieces of engineering for us that have changed our lives. If we didn't have them, life would be different just along with any other technology we have. Laptops have had a huge impact on society.

The Story of Dr. Evil Gizmo Giblert
by Eli C. and Campbell S.
The humans picked pieces off of the snowman. Flurries of snowflakes streamed down from the sky. Gizmo Giblert cried tears which instantly froze only adding to his suffering. He had always been picked on by the children of Frankfort, they made snowballs out of him to play with. He would get them back one day. His uncle, Vance, told him that he shouldn’t worry about them and steer clear of their troublemaking. Gizmo didn’t take his uncle’s advice and had a plan to get back at the KIDS who had treated him wrong.
As he grew older he devised his plan more and more. Dr. Evil Gizmo Giblert knew what he was going to do. He was ready, mostly. He just needed snowmen. The “evil” doctor was going to find a way to survive in the heat. If he could do this, he would be able to get the revenge he always wanted to get on his classmates. He waited a few days until a strong snow fell upon Frankfort. Once the snow had died down he was able to build the snowman that he would experiment on. He had stolen some tools from the school and set up in his igloo.
Lights flashed and sparks flew from inside the igloo as Gizmo got to work. He would make sure that this plan of his would work. After a few hours, his creation was done. Gizmo set out for the school. No children will ever be able to learn again. It was early spring and all snow was gone. But as he stepped into the school Mrs. Gilbert called SRT. They took Gizmo and his army to the Exact Path lab and they were stuck forever.
An Honest Review Of Netflix Christmas Movies
By: Katie N. and Margaret W.
As the holiday season approaches, Netflix has begun to release it’s annual slew of Christmas movies and we have decided to get into the holiday spirit by reviewing some of their old and recent, Netflix produced, Christmas movies. Today we have decided to review “The Holiday calendar”, “The Christmas Inheritance”, and, finally, “The Christmas Prince”.
The Holiday Calendar:
This movie is like most other rom-coms basically, it's about two best friends who fall in love. In the movie, the main character’s best friend returns around Christmas time and, although she meets a guy, the calendar leads them together through a series of small toys that predict what will happen on that specific day. Overall, we rate this movie a 6/10 for the enormous amount of holiday spirit and the happiness of the plot.
The Christmas Inheritance:
This movie is slightly better than other rom-coms, but relates to a lot of Christmas movies, as the main character suffers many minor mishaps before succeeding on her mission of proving herself to her father as a mature young adult. In the movie, the main character heads to her father's hometown, after suffering a major publicity incident, to deliver a letter to her uncle. While there she meets a small-town guy who, although she has a fiancee, falls in love with her and her with him. To summarize, this movie is our favorite as it is lovable, has Christmas cheer, and shows the main character dumping her terrible fiancee, so we rate this movie an 8/10.
A Christmas Prince:
This movie is a not our favorite, as it represents a woman leaving behind her goals and dreams to marry the prince. This movie is about a journalist who is sent to the castle in order to get an insight into what the future king’s life is like. But, the prince is also looking for a queen. Along the way, the two fall in love in love and their relationship evolves from that. In the end, the journalist stays with the prince and becomes his queen. We give this movie a 5/10 because it is not that Christmasy and we didn’t really enjoy the plot.
In conclusion, Netflix has some fairly decent Christmas movies out. Although some of them are definitely not the best, we still suggest that you give them a try and watch them. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Dark Tide
a song by Shelby M.
Let the dark depressing tide wash me away
But promise…
You will neve-e-er
Forget me
I promise to be fine (DON’T FORGET ME)
I promise to be strong (DON’T FORGET ME)
I promi-i-i-ise to be to be there for you (PLEASE DON'T FORGET me-e-e)
Even if I can’t be with you
Your the only one I have
Don’t let go
I won’t let go
Unless that time has come to go
Let me slip away without you embrace
Don’t save me from the dark tide
If you do your the one to get hurt
Don’t get hurt
Just forget about all the past embraces
Just forget about the hand holding
I’m more of a woman than you think
Just let me be
And let me slip away
I’LL FIND A WAY OUT
I’LL FIND A WAY out
I’LL FIND A way out
I’LL FIND a way out
I’LL find a way out
i’ll find a way out
