School Board Highlights

Board Appreciation
Superintendent Dr. Scott Warren recognized the seven Board Members on Board Appreciation Day, November 15, for their volunteer efforts and commitment. Board Appreciation Day is a time to publicly recognize the efforts of Board members and show appreciation for their dedicated service to its students, staff, and community.
Celebrating Success
Each month, a school features a program or event that involves its students and staff. This month, Half Day students read essays they wrote about veterans in honor of Veterans Day.
Public Hearing to Approve Levy
Mr. Patrick Palbicke presented the proposed 2022 tax levy during a public hearing where the Board and community members may ask questions. Later in the meeting the Board approved the $35,676,438 tax levy.
School Fees
The Board approved school fees for the 2023-2024 school year. The fee increases will align with the consumer price index, which will realize about a 5 percent increase. Fees include technology equipment as well as school supplies. Fees are similar to those in area school districts.
Calendar
The Board approved the school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. Following are some highlights of the calendar:
The first day of school is set for Thursday, August 24, 2023.
The last day of school is set for Wednesday, June 5, 2024, if no emergency days are used.
Winter break begins Friday, December 22, 2023, with students returning on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Spring Break will begin on Monday, March 25, 2024, and students will return on Monday, April 1, 2024.
School Maintenance Grant
The Board approved the State School Maintenance Grant for $50,000 in matching funds to the district for improvements on facilities. The grant money will be used for tuckpointing throughout the district.
Transportation Update
The Transportation Department expects to be fully staffed and trained for the start of 2023. The Department has asked families to complete an online form if they will ride the bus to/from school in January.
Budget Projections
The Board postponed a discussion regarding budget projections until the December 13, 2023 Board meeting.
Board of Education Meeting
The next Board of Education meeting will occur at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13. The notice and agenda can be found on the District 103 Board meeting website page. D103 board meetings will be live-streamed each month on our YouTube Channel. Members of the community should attend the meeting at 111 Barclay Boulevard, Lincolnshire if they would like to make a public comment. The public can also contact the Board at board@d103.org.
