Parent Forum: "What I Wish My Parents Knew"
The “What I Wish My Parents Knew” parent forum is coming to Oak Valley Middle School on Wednesday, January 29th from 6:30 PM - 8:45 PM. This event is centered on interactive sessions that feature the voices of students from our PUSD community. Local community leaders and the principals from our PUSD High School will be facilitating workshops addressing topics such as Communicating with Your Teen, Handling Academic Pressure, Establishing Guardrails, Managing Social Media, Managing Healthy Relationships, and Managing Stress and Anxiety.
More information can be found about this organization at www.whatiwishmyparentsknew.com. Your attendance at this event on January 29th could be extremely valuable for helping your child find success today, into high school, and beyond. We encourage parents to attend.
Yearbook Survey
Students are invited to complete a short survey for the yearbook. They must use their school-issued G-Suite account. The format is first name, last initial, last 5 digits of student ID, and @stu.powayusd.com. Only one entry per student. Deadline for entries is Friday, February 7!
Volunteers Needed: Step It Up Reward Day
The Step It Up Reward Day has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 12th. The fundraiser itself raised funds for student life on campus for the students by the students to help improve and offset the cost of lunchtime activities, dances, and other enrichment activities for the students.
Parent volunteers will be helping supervise the multiple inflatable obstacle courses and other prize areas. There are several volunteer time slots available starting at 9:45 am. To VOLUNTEER, please click here.
No Place For Hate Walk
The 3rd Annual Walk Against Hate is on Sunday, April 26th in Liberty Station. This annual walk is a 5K. Festivities will start at 8:30 AM. There will be booths, performances, entertainment, etc. It is an event for all families. Our goal is to raise $1,000 by April 17th. Early Bird Registration is $15. Students are free if you use the code: PFH2020

Kangas AM Wins Constitutional Challenge
This year's Constitutional Challenge Championship was an exciting game for all spectators which included classes from all grade levels. Kangas AM faced Hanson AM in the championship after months of competing amongst all the 8th grade homerooms. It was a nail biter as the teams were tied after each of the first three rounds. Team Kangas AM started to pull away during the speed round. Kangas AM won the championship with a final score of 82 to 67. Congratulations to both teams for an amazing performance.

Congratulations MVMS Math Club
Mesa Verde Middle School Math Club students participated in the 2019 AMC 8 Math Contest. Our school achieved a total score of 66, which put us in the list of the top 225 schools worldwide that participated in the 2019 AMC 8 Math Contest. Out of all our wonderful math club students, Justin Zhang (pictured-left) won the school Gold Medal with a score of 23, which put him in the top 1% nationally with the award of Honor Roll of Distinction. Daniel J. Maher (pictured-middle) won the school Silver Medal with a score of 22. Daniel Lu (pictured-right) won the school Bronze Medal with a score of 21. Daniel J. Maher, Daniel Lu, Anthony Wang, Michael Zheng, Maximilian Liu, Dylan M Deng, and Elizabeth Li are in the top 5% nationally and received the awards of Honor Roll Certificate. Albert Li, Yiwen Liang and Minghui Yao all received Certificate of Achievement as students in grade 6 and below who scored over a 15 on the AMC 8.
Mesa Verde Middle School math club is a volunteer-based students-parents organization and meet every Wednesday morning 8-9 am in Village B classrooms when the school is in session. Mr. Chris Pratt serves as the teacher advisor of the club. The club students enjoy a variety of math competitions including but not limited to Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS), AMC 8, AMC 10, and MathCounts. All students of Mesa Verde Middle School are welcome to register for participation at the beginning of the school year.
Two Selected to All State Middle School Symphonic Band
Two Mesa Verde students have been selected to the All State Middle School Symphonic Band. Congratulations to Francis Tian (percussion) and Serena Liu (flute) on their selection. This is the top all state band for middle school students! We are proud of you and know you will represent our school well!

Cyberbullying, Cyberstalking, Sexting and the Law - FREE
Since the inception of cell phones, teenagers, young adults, and adults have faced cyberbullying in the form of social media, rapid messaging, sexting, and photoshopping. Intervention, education, and reinforcement falls to both parents and schools to reinforce healthy educational practices and responses. Join us to learn about the forms of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, sexting, and the law. Attendees will also learn the medical, psychological, and behavioral impact on young people as a result of Cyber-Abuse.

NEW Preparing Positively for Puberty - TK-8th Grade
We can prepare our children for puberty by teaching them what to expect as their bodies transition from childhood to adulthood. Learn how to break down "the big puberty talk" into tiny talks that are more comfortable for both caregivers and children. Participants will review resources such as books and web sites that can simplify the process of starting a tiny talk. Activities that can promote a positive and practical attitude toward this important life stage will be discussed.

Attention Students and Parents
For your safety, when walking to and from school please be sure to utilize the sidewalks and designated crosswalks. There have been reports of close calls in our parking lots.

Student Drop Off and Pickup
When dropping off your student in the morning, please proceed to the official student drop off and pick up area which is the last driveway along Entreken (our 6th grade lot). Considering all aspects of student safety, we ask that you always use this area for drop off and pickup. The driveway and parking lot next to the Administration Office will be closed to student drop offs.
