President's Puck Drop
BYH President, Ryan O'Connell
“Life is Messy”. That’s the title of prolific writer Matthew Kelly’s latest book. Here’s a quick excerpt:
“Everyone is fighting a hard battle … Life is difficult. Not for some people, but for everyone in their own way. People don’t walk around with a sign around their neck that announces what they are struggling with … But everyone’s struggling with something. When we are mindful of this, we are gentler with others. When we forget this, we abandon our humanity.”
We like to celebrate success stories around here, and I heard a post-tryout story recently that just had to be shared. One of our 12u players, Nolan Forsythe-Daily, reached out to a teammate from last year after hearing the news that this second year Squirt did not make the 10uAA team. Having gone through something very similar the season before, Nolan felt compelled to give his mate a pep talk. Nolan shared his experiences and all of the great things that came out of it and, in doing so, lifted his friend’s spirits in a way that few others could.
Nolan, I hope you know we’re as proud of you for this act of kindness as we are for any “patch” that might be awarded for on-ice achievement. Your actions were both a beautiful example of how a hockey family should treat each other and a real positive indicator of the kind of leader you are becoming. Well done young man!
