Final Exam Reminder and Study Tips

Friendly reminder- BHS will be holding Final Exams. For many students, this can create anxiety, especially since we haven't had them for a few years. Students should begin preparing now for the upcoming exams by following the tips below.

  • Start Early
  • Spend the most time studying your hardest class
  • Form a study group
  • Study Actively, not passively: Use flash cards, create mnemonic devices, try Quizlet
  • Make sleep a priority

Additionally, please do not schedule appointments during Final Exams. We try to not disrupt the learning and testing environment that week, so there will be limited opportunities for us to pull a student out of a classroom. If you previously have an appointment scheduled, please notify us well in advance if you need your student during the finals week.

Work Permits- No Longer Managed by High Schools

Effective July 1, Indiana has eliminated work permits completely, and now requires all employers with five or more minor employees (under age 18) to begin using the Indiana Department of Labor’s Youth Employment System (YES) to track and report minor-employee information.

YES is simple and easy to use. Employers can access the app via their smart device, such as your smartphone or tablet, as well as their desktop or laptop. Once they’ve set up their employer profile, they can enter your minor data – name, age and hire date – within minutes.

The new system will not impact the state’s work-hour requirement for minors, and all employers must still comply with the Teens Work Hour restrictions and Prohibited and Hazardous.

Driver's Education

Brownsburg High School does NOT offer driver's education, but we do work with CIESC to offer programing. If interested in utilizing CIESC, please see the link below for more information.

Mr. Douglas and Mrs. Mehrtens do NOT enroll students in these courses. If interested, families will need to follow information provided in the link.

World Language (French, German, Spanish)

A common question counselors receive is whether or not world language credits are required for graduation. In short, students do not need a world language to earn a Core 40 Diploma or Technical Honors Diploma, but they NEED 3 years to earn an Academic Honors Diploma.

When deciding whether or not your teen needs a world language, it's important to know that some colleges (IU and Purdue for example) require world language credits for admission. It's important to do your research to avoid disappointment senior year.

MASKS

Please make sure you are sending a back up mask with your students. The Team office has masks to use in case of an emergency, but we can not continue to supply students with masks because they forgot or got dirty. We appreciate your support with this matter.

Restroom Guidelines

This year we have seen an uptick in inappropriate restroom behavior, including vandalism. Much of this is made popular through the app TikTok. Students who are continuously in and out of restrooms, or congregating in restrooms with other students may face consequences. We appreciate your support in speaking with your students about how they can contribute to a positive school culture and keeping our wonderful facilities clean and orderly.

Calling out attendance

When a student is out for the day please call the team office at 317-852-2258 extension 1601, and Mrs. Patino will mark the student's attendance.

When a student is leaving early for an appointment, please call the team office as early in the day as possible to let us know. We will send a pass to the student's class to release him/her.

The student will sign out in the team office and then be allowed to leave the building. Only a guardian may call to release a student from school, but may have anyone pick him/her up. Parents do not have to come in to sign the student out; the students will sign themselves out.
