How Will You End the Year?
I can't believe that we are four weeks away from the end of the school year, where did this past year go. The closing of the school year brings excitement and joy, maybe even anxiety and sadness for all involved, parents, students, and staff. You have all worked very hard to develop relationships with students and parents over the past year. Now is the time to be thinking about how you will close those relationships prior to the end of the year. I would encourage each of you to make a positive personal phone call to the parents of your students...let them know the growth you've seen in their child, how much your enjoyed them, tell them a story from the year about their child, maybe you'll miss them greatly, invite them to come back and visit...I know that you can each think of something positive to say about each child you work with. As a parent, those positive conversations about Elena throughout her schooling have meant the world to me. Remember, the end of the year is not the end in regards to students or families, you have forever made a mark on your students and you will never be forgotten. Have you thought about what your mark on them will be?
Teacher Data
At our staff meeting on Wednesday, I will be going over how I would like you to enter your student data into your Google Drive folder. I am asking that you have all student growth data entered by Monday, June 6th. Anna will then be scheduling evaluation meetings beginning June 7th and I will need the data in order to finish your evaluations. Please watch for an email from her to schedule these meetings.
PTO Walk-a-thon & Color Run
Information and fundraising collection envelopes went home last Tuesday and money is due next Tuesday, May 31st. Please take a moment to publicize the fundraiser in your classroom newsletters. We are hoping to purchase document cameras for the rest of the building, but these are quite expensive. Also, for the Walk-a-thon & Color Run students will be allowed to wear sunglasses or hats. Parents and family members will be allowed to come and watch, but they will not be able to participate. The schedule for the June 1st Walk-a-thon & Color Run is as follows:
- 1:15-1:45 p.m.-Proctor, Holland, Ross, Lints, Howes, Driskill, Lambaria
- 2:15-2:45 p.m.- Pietras, VanEvery, LeMieux, O'Brien, Kellie, Williams, Wheaton
- A special 10:00 a.m. Walk-a-thon & Color Run will be held for Johnson's a.m. preschool students.
The event will take place in the back field where a track will be set up. The students will walk/run for approximately 20 minutes and then have a Popsicle/Freeze Pop provided by the PTO. Teachers will also be given plastic grocery bags while outside so that the students can take off their decorated t-shirts and put them in the bags prior to re-entering the building. If you have a student that can not have this, please see me right away. I will ask that students not be taken out on the playground for extra recess during the Walk-a-thon/Color Run. If you have any questions, please see me.
Intersession Jobs Posted
If you are interested in working during the intersession breaks next year, be sure to check out the job postings on the Davison website. There are all types of postings and since you would be applying internally, the application process is very easy.
Cardinal Code Focus for the Week: Office
This week, please intentionally review procedures for when students come down to the office. A couple of things to remind students of: when entering the office, wait on the ABC rug and wait to be greeted; make sure that you say your name and your room number before stating what you need; exit quietly and return to class quietly.

Quotes Worth Reading...
"Who am I, you ask? I am made from all the people I've encountered and all the things I have experienced. Inside, I hold the laughter of my friends, the arguments with my parents, the chattering of young children, and the warmth from kind strangers. Inside, there are stitching from cracked hears, bitter words from heated arguments, music that gets me through, and emotions I cannot convey. I am made from all these people and moments. That is who I am."
-Ming D. Liu
While we are made of those we encounter, as well we make others who they are by our interactions with them...again, leaving a mark on their lives.
What kind of mark will you make on the lives of others today?
