Principal's Message 2/7/22
Zion-Benton High School continues to be very busy and is off to a great start during this second semester. When students returned from winter break, they returned to new policies, new procedures, and reminders pertaining to behavioral expectations. As expected, our students have risen to the occasion and have responded well to these new policies and procedures, and I am very thankful and appreciative of their efforts and our collective partnership with families.
February is Black History Month, and we are celebrating in a variety of ways throughout the month. Our Black Student Union (BSU) has done a great job creating videos and activities celebrating and recognizing the contributions of African Americans that students are experiencing in their classes. We had a Spoken Word performance last week, we have a fashion show scheduled this week during lunch periods, and there are a number of events in the coming weeks. We encourage our students, families, and community to join us in celebrating at these wonderful events:
- The ZB Encore Players have several performances of the play Court Martial at Fort Devens scheduled this week on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Based on a true story, this gripping and inspiring drama explores the complexities of standing up for one's rights. Tickets are available at: zbdrama.booktix.com.
- On Friday, February 18 at 3:30 p.m., the Devine Nine organization is scheduled to perform a step show in the ZBTHS Performing Arts Center. Devine Nine is a national organization of Black fraternities and sororities.
- On Saturday, February 26 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., the Zion Park District is hosting the 32nd Annual Black History Program in the ZBTHS Performing Arts Center.
Semester 2 is off to a great start. I want to thank our families for your continued partnership and support as we work together to educate our students and provide an environment full of opportunities.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Pawelczyk
