SLCS District Update
9.30.2021
Note from the Superintendent
Greetings SLCS Families and Staff Members,
I have purposely tried to avoid putting COVID related information in this message. There are too many other more positive things we should be focused on as a school community. However, in light of the recent state budget that was signed into law yesterday by Governor Whitmer, I feel some clarification may be needed with respect to the status of the OCHD Emergency Order (2021-01) pertaining to the mask mandate based on related language included in Senate Bill 82 [Section 1222(4)] which is part of the budget package.
At this time, the OCHD Emergency Order remains in full effect. Senate Bill 82 [Section 1222(4)] does not affect the legality of the Emergency Order or the District’s obligation to observe it. What stands to be impacted based on the legislation is funding appropriated to the local health department should a mandate remain in effect as of October 1, 2021. Again, the OCHD Emergency Order is still in effect. Therefore, nothing is changing within our schools at this time with respect to mask wearing. We will keep you posted should there be future developments.
On a different note, schools have always provided great learning and traditions for students, and Homecoming events are always exciting moments. The students at South Lyon East did a great job decorating the hallways today. Check out our social media to see some of the highlights. Good luck to the Cougars and have fun to all who will be participating in Homecoming events.
South Lyon High School will be hosting their annual Red Out tomorrow. This is a longstanding tradition by which the students and the school do a great job each year supporting the American Heart Association. Mr. Brennan is proud to tout that SLHS is the first school in Michigan to host a Red Out game and the students always do a tremendous job raising money for this worthwhile cause.
Perhaps opportunities once taken for granted, it is exceptionally nice to have many of these types of events occurring once again in our schools. Our staff and students work extremely hard to make these events happen and in a manner that is positive and fun for our students and in a manner by which our entire school community can be proud!
SLCS Family! SLCS Proud! SLCS Strong!
