Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills.
Esteemed RHE Community,
We had a week full of learning and multiple events. Throughout the week, teachers had their planning day to collaborate for what is coming in the 3rd Six weeks. With it being the last week of the six weeks, students across various grade levels took CFAs. These are local assessments that show their learning and understanding of the concepts that have been taught up until now. Teachers use this data to plan for instruction, enrichment and intervention as needed.
We had our Staff Thanksgiving Luncheon on Wednesday where everyone had a one hour lunch to enjoy with their colleagues. We also welcomed our Bobcat Families for our Thanksgiving Luncheon on Friday. We had over 800 guests come through our doors. We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation through it all, from the entry verification, to the line for their plate, the exit and picking up of their child. These procedures help us ensure that we keep all our students safe. It helps us continue our day to day operations, it ensures that students get from one place to another in a safe and efficient manner, and it allows us to arrange for students to eat with their families even when they are in different grade levels. I hope everyone present had a lovely time together. We look forward to more events in the future. The week ended with a winter transformation where staff members stayed after school, well past their leaving time to decorate the halls with festive holiday decorations that go beyond what our students are used to seeing day to day. To all our staff, a HUGE thank you for the planning, time, and work you put into it. We will plan for a Holiday hallway parade before we leave for the Holiday break so that students can show their dress-up attire and also see all the wonderful decorations.
When we return from the Thanksgiving break, our K - 4th Grade students will take their mCLASS MOY assessments, 3rd - 4th Graders will take their Fall Benchmarks. Parents, we ask for your support in bringing your child to school every day so that they do not miss out on imperative reviews, practice, and assessments that will help our teachers better meet their needs.
Lastly, a HUGE thank you to our parents, community, and staff who participated in our Little Ceasar's fundraiser at the end of the 1st Six Weeks. We have another report card day coming up Wednesday, November 29th. Please continue to support us by going out to Little Ceasar's in San Benito from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. They will donate 20% of the sales to our student incentive account!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We'll see you back on Monday, bright and early at school before 8:00am.
At Your Service,
Dra. Betty A. Cárdenas

Thursday - 89%
Friday - 86%
ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK - 93%
We had a positive turnaround from where we were last week. However, we are still below our goal of 96%. As you can see above, we had a strong start to the week. We had our lowest attendance percentage on Thursday and Friday. Academically, Thursday and Fridays are are when students are demonstrating their understanding of the concepts for the week. This is when the students take their weekly assessments and when teachers review those assessments with them to clear up misconceptions. If the student is absent, he/her is losing many learning opportunities. Unless otherwise noted by a doctor, your child needs to be at school every day.
