The Beginning
If it weren't for a few key court cases and people pushing for segregation to end in the Air Force the Tuskegee Airman might not have even existed. this is proven in “In 1939, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) took aim at the military’s segregationist policies. Negro newspapers and civic groups around the country began a public campaign to integrate the armed forces.”("Tuskegee Airmen") The Tuskegee Airman where the first of there kind which is one of the things that made them so popular.

There Success
Another reason the Tuskegee Airman where so popular is because of the extreme success that they had as fighters and protecting. This success is shown by "By the end of the war, the Airmen had made a major contribution to the Allied war effort, shooting down 109 German planes and raining destruction on hundreds of Axis positions and supply lines. The Airmen flew hundreds of missions, without losing a single bomber to enemy fire."(N.p)
Awards
The Tuskegee weren't just successful during the war but they where also honored after the war. they won many awards "The number of military medals awarded to the Airmen included eight Purple Hearts, 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and hundreds more of other kinds of distinction."(N.p) The men who were expected to fail where actually one of the most successful and remembered.
