Forest Park, IL, Dec. 9, 2022 – The tax abatement resulting from the 5% tax levy will give the Proviso community homeowners almost $50.00 for properties valued at $250,000, and up to approximately $100.00 for properties valued at $500,000, a tax break nearly amounting to $2 million for Proviso taxpayers.

For the first time in the Board of Education’s history, its longest serving member, Vice President Theresa Kelly, insisted to ease the burden on all taxpayers.

Proviso Township High School District 209 Superintendent, Dr. James L. Henderson said, “We are working hard to find ways to give back to the community in times of need.” Dr. Henderson added, “Several Board members stressed that financial relief should be given to our Proviso community due to the hardship caused by the pandemic.”

Board Member President Arbdella Patterson said that majority of the board members agreed to the tax levy proposal and is pleased with the work of the superintendent and his team.

“The 3 percent abatement that lowers the tax bill for residents should be well received by everyone,” says CFO Cedric Lewis. “Property taxes can be increased as much as 5 percent over the previous year levy without a Truth in Taxation hearing,” Lewis added.

Dr. Henderson and his leadership team will be presenting the levy to the Board of Education’s regular meeting scheduled Dec. 13.
