What is St. Patrick's Day Anyway? By Emma
People celebrate Saint Patrick's day on March 17th because that is the day that Patrick died. But people think it is his birthday. Some people do Irish dances and some sing Irish songs. There is also a parade that people march in.
Now I will tell you about Patrick. He was born in Britain. Did you know Patrick was not Irish. Patrick lived by sea in a big house. He had a lot of servants in his house. In Britain it was cold and damp, but Patricks house was warm.
At the age of 16 Patrick was kidnapped. On the island now called Ireland men called raiders lived on that island a long time ago. Raiders took people out of there homes and sold them as slaves. When the raiders stole Patrick they stole some of his servants. The raiders took Patrick to Ireland and sold him to this man named Chief Miliuc. Patrick was know a slave. Miliuc owned herds of sheep and Patrick had to take care of them. Like Britain, Ireland gets cold and damp. Patrick had to watch the sheep 24,7. He had no shelter, the only thing keeping him warm was the sheep's wool. Patrick said that he was surrounded by barbarians.
He started to pray. Then he heard a voice say to go to the dock. He did as he was told. Then a crew called to him and said that he could get on with them. the ship had cargo of wolfhounds. Then he arrived back at Britain. He thought a lot, and decided that he wanted to go back to Ireland to teach people about god, that was his dream.
He became a priest. Then his dreams came true, he went back to Ireland and started to preaching. He started to build churches and schools all over the world. People started to trust him. Patrick became a Bishop. Bishop Patrick spent the rest of his life caring for the Irish people. Everyone loved him, and after he died the Catholic Church made him a Saint.
Today many things are done to celebrate this holiday. People go to church to give thanks for what he did to Ireland. People dress in green to honor an ancient Irish custom. We have a lot to thank Saint Patrick for.

Wind Farms by Brandon
In fourth grade we are learning about renewable energy and focusing on Wind Farms. How must wind farms cost?
It costs about 1.3 million to 2.2 million dollars. There's a difference a whole kilowatt costs 3000 to 8000. Now a 10 kilowatt wind turbine (The size needed to power a large home) Installed cost of 50,000 - 80,000 and It could be even more. Wind turbines have a significant economies of scale.
Pros about wind farms
Let's start with the pros. Wind turbines are a renewable energy source. So you don't need fossil fuels Like coal and petroleum. It's good for the environment. It's clean and modern. Wind is free. Wind farm energy/wind is clean.
The black oak wind farm article says “The project will provide a range of benefits for local people. These include revenue from lease and neighbor payments to people living nearest the project; host community payments to the Town of Enfield; tax payments to town and schools; providing long-overdue repairs to local roads; high speed internet has been brought to 800 homes never served previously; and clean, low-cost energy will be provided to the grid to help replace retired dirty old facilities like coal plants. This makes cleaner air and water for everyone “
That's why people should use clean energy around the world. Like in England there are 9,098 wind turbines offshore.wind is free so why do we even bother burning fossil fuels. So that's why people shouldn't buy oil when we have free energy all around us.

A magical world of mischief, builds up your imagination
As Melissa Taylor said “Harry Potter teaches essential life lessons (that are sometimes easier to learn in a fantasy book than in a realistic one).
These lessons include:
– Friends stick together no matter what.
– We must think of others; be kind and accepting of those who are different.
– People aren’t all bad or all good but a mixture of both. Just like in our own lives.
– Bravery means standing up for what’s right and acting on it — even when it’s hard.
– Your family isn’t always your blood relations and that’s okay.
– Intelligence, loyalty, and courage are important.
– Love is stronger than evil. (why Harry wasn’t killed as a baby)
– Our choices determine who we are. “ in the article ‘10 Reasons Why All Kids Should Read Harry Potter’’

And look at Pottermore too!The Shattered Friendship- a fiction story by Marlea
After the first day of Middle school Sasha, Maddie and Jessica went out to eat , they were talking about Maddie’s birthday. Her birthday was coming up in 3 weeks. She was turning 12. (Maddie was the oldest of the group, but was not that nice all the time.) Later that night Sasha and Jessica went out to the movies. The next day Maddie figured it out, Maddie called Sasha that day. “Why did you not invite me to the movies.” said Maddie. I called your mom last night and she said you were busy. Sasha exclaimed. But what sasha did not know was that Maddie was on the phone and pretending to be her mom to hatch an evil plan. Sasha went to Maddies house to apologise but she was not home. She told Maddie's mom what she was apologising for, Maddie's mom was confused. She was not on the phone last night she was working late. MADDIE! She said as she sprinted through the door. She saw Maddie walking to her house with a grin on her face as she said “what's wrong” and walked away with an evil laugh. “That devil!” Said Sasha.
That night she had Jessica come over to spend the night to tell her about what Maddie had done. “Why would someone who had been their best friend forever (literally forever) betray us. So here is the story of how we had been best friends forever.” Said Jessica.” Well at least the story my mom told me! So, we all had the same babysitter and she had the babys play in one room. (and you can probably guess who the babies were) Anyways, we had played together everyday. And as we got older we started playing together a lot more and here we are we are still best friends, well you and I are. Not so much Maddie.”
3 weeks later
Maddie’s birthday is tomorrow. Sasha made Maddie a beautiful stain glass figure that says best friends forever. Sasha thought that she did not deserve that, so she threw it in the box and it shattered. “There” said sasha. “This is what she deserves.” after that she wrapped the box with pretty wrapping paper.
The next day at the party Maddie opened the present. Her mouth dropped wide open she ran up to her room crying. “Shattered glass really Sasha?” yelled Maddie. Jessica and Sasha left. Later that day she saw a note hidden in the wrapping paper that said “this is what happened to our friendship, I hope you understand-Sasha. Maddie did not understand. It's just shattered glass and friendship what is that supposed to mean? “Oh no i have to go talk to her!” Said maddie, “I was the jerk this whole time! They were practically innocent.”
The Next Day
When Maddie walked into school, she was feeling so embarrassed. She just wanted to hide in her locker. She saw Jessica and Sasha walk by. They looked like they were having so much fun she thought. Ok maddie time to step up and go say sorry to them. She thought to herself. She slowly tiptoed near the girls. (takes a deep breath) “Imsorryforbeingbossyandtheworstfriendintheworldihopeyouforgiveme!” Maddie blurted out. “What did you just say?” Said Jessica. “I was saying that i'm sorry for being bossy and the worst friend in the world i hope you guys forgive me!” She said. “Is this about the present?” Said Sasha. “Yeah, you made me realize that our friendship is more than i think it is. I'm really sorry for what i have done to you guys please forgive me!” “Ok Maddie we will let you off this time but please do not treat us like we are your servants and ,i know it was not nice of me to give you that present , but i was not really thinking. I’m sorry.” Said Sasha. “Friends?” Said Maddie. “Friends.” Said Jessica and Sasha.
