Reading
This past week we read Chapters 6-9 of a modified version of the book Tuck Everlasting by Cynthia Rylant. We took a quiz today and everyone was quite successful on a 10 question test. We also continue working on sight word development while using the program Edmark on the Smart Board. We also continue working on writing and typing.
Science
This week we finished up a unit on parts of a plant. We took a quiz on labeling parts of a plant. Next week we are going to continue with botany and look deeper into plant adaptation.
Math
The past two week we have begun working more in depth with coins, their values, and how to use them. We will continue this for another few weeks. If you want to reinforce what we are doing, please discuss some of the basic principles with your student. It’s as simple as asking the value of the coin and asking them to make a specific amount of change out of coins you have. Practice counting by 5’s, 10’s, and 25’s with them.
Advising/Peer Tutors
During the flex period our students get a chance to work with peer tutors enhancing their social skills as well as extra help in basics such as reading and writing development.
Upcoming CBI
Next week I will be sending home a letter about our upcoming CBI (Community Based Instruction) trip to Florence Mall on Tuesday, November 25th. The letter needs to be signed and turned in as soon as possible. Students will need money to eat at the food court and any extra for if they would like to make a purchase at the Dollar Tree. I recommend about $10 but this is not necessary.
Testing Begins
During the next week and a half before Thanksgiving break we will be starting our first round of Alternative Assessment testing.
